the bars should havea flat end to the cross bar
you have to get that to the opening in the goose neck slide it through
and carry on by to the end of the bars - i thinks !

is that possible ? it been a few years.

Yup sounds right, you'll have to remove the bolt and prise open the clamp, I always found it more difficult to get the bloody bends in the bars through - good luck

i always wondered why they had that flat spot

i thought thats what i should do but i couldnt see how it would get around the bends. i think i will leave the bars attached to the stem, and just clean up and paint as a unit

I was thinking as well
if you respray the bars etc when you have to get them back through its gonna mess up the new finish surely ?
cos it aint easy or a loose fit is it.

i have set to do some time and was thinking about doing both together now rather then split them and ruin the new finish.

I got mine on without a scratch. Open up the stem bolt clamp a little and it'll go through easily.

Hows this for a mini. This was made bye a couple of boys here in Australia. it was shown at our first annual gathering. They even cut down a set of 401's!
They also have a few more underway at the moment. Redline I think was next.
