84' GT Pro Performer UPDATE back from the powdercoaters
« on: November 13, 2007, 02:44 PM »
Afternoon lads, ok some of you may have seen the progress of my 84' GT Pro Performer (originally purchased from Rarman1 - Rob) which had the seat post stuck in. After weeks of bashing, heating up and soaking it done nothing, so my brother cut it out and replaced it. Top job also!

So the frame got sent off to the powdercoaters straight after this to Beta Powder Coaters in Hoddesdon, Herts. They charged me about £30 to do it, that included stripping the nickel off the frame (as it was originally chrome) etching it and then painting it.

The colour was inspired by Munners (Nick), it was his suggestion and also my missus to go with Black and I have to say, I'm well happy with it. The theme of the bike will be black, chrome and gold (stem, wheels, seat post etc.. no Tuffs for this baby!). I have a silver padset on its way over from the US now and I'm just getting together some gold parts. Its a custom build I know but I'm sure you'll agree, these are nice to do sometimes. The forks aren't correct and I'll never get hold of a set of Pro Performer forks for the life of me, but these are close and made by the same company. Overall very happy with how its turned out, what do you reckon? Once built up a bit more I'll wack up a few more photos.

Here is a couple of how it was and now how it looks!

Cheers,

Matt :daumenhoch:

Looking sharp that  :daumenhoch:

How thick is the powder coat, looks a little thick in the photo's but they can be deceiving?

PS I have your clamp here, packaged and I'm popping up the post office today  ;)

Really really smart that mate. Really nice to see a performer in black. I always wondered what it would look like in that colour. I think you have done the right thing keeping the forks chrome too. Makes it stand out nice!

I am happy that i inspired you to do it like that. Well chuffed.  ;)

Gota say though..... If you put black tuffs and red parts on it, it would be truely STUNNING!  :4_17_5:

Hats off for taking the plunge and doing a custom.  :daumenhoch:

Thanks Nick, yeah I'm glad I went for it... after your suggestion I couldn't get it out my head then spoke to Lucie and she agreed, so Black it was!  :daumenhoch:

I'm gonna skip putting tuffs on this only for the reason that I fancy some Gold rims. All my other bikes have tuffs and I think it will make a nice change, also add some extra bling to this bike  8)

Next thing to do is hunt down gold parts! Crank, pedals etc..  ;)

nice one mate, you dont see many black performers and that looks the Nuts.

i think i would be tempted to do chrome bars, cranks, wheels, front brake, seat post,

with black seat, grips, rear brake and gt skinwall tyres :daumenhoch:

i do have a pair of chrome gt performer bars, but the chrome's no good for that beauty :'(

I do like that due, very nice.

It's strange really because one of the things I dislike so much about a lot of the new school bike is so much black but that looks the dogs thingys.

In fact, one of my favourite Performers on bmxmuseum.com is a black one, it's a nice mix of old a new and really does look cool, check it out.

Looking forward to seeing yours finished.

Daz,

Thanks mate. Yeah it was Munners suggestion and I thought fook it, its not original (as its a custom build) but why not and I think its turned out really well. Will wack up some more photos during its progression.

Cheers  :daumenhoch:

There's a lot to be said for custom builds, done right they look cool as!

Here's my Performer, it's currently in the for sale/trade section so you might have already seen it but if you haven't here it is.

Well......what I'd do is this.....

You've got chrome forks on it so if you balance the gold parts out right you'll get away with having chrome cranks on, preferably chrome 3 piece Profiles or you could put some raw Profiles on which are goldish and not chrome.

They've got some at Alans.......see link below mate.....

Getting the right crank will be a task....
