I have no luck whatsoever in getting an old school redline flight chainwheel  :-[ so I'm having to resort to a newly made one which will go on my Gen 1, yes I know its not in-keeping but no one wants to sell me one of these. So the idea is, buy one of these, strip it and see if it will polish up. I know that the redline logo is laser etched and not painted on. I don't know if its alloy or not, I'm guessing they are the new ones but what do you reckon?  :-\

Hi mate, yeah I have but they are going to stupid prices and also many of them won't ship to the UK. Haven't seen any in the UK for sale or in europe yet, only the states, hence my decision to try this out...  :(

Easy to strip and polish, but tbh you might be better off with a Sugino spider or polished power disk especially if its going on a Gen 1  :daumenhoch:

that should strip handy enough swivel, shouldn't be a problem.
this macneil sprocket was black anodised, (that chainwheel of yours most likely is too) but a few minutes in Oven Pride and a bit of polishing sorted it out.

mate what i do is
1, oven pride
2, 400 wet and dry on a polisher circular pad
3, 1000 wet and dry " "" "
4, using a polishing mop ie sheepskin or cloth on a polisher, dremmel, or buffing machine (i use a flex vari speed) and a buffing wax stick, i use pink,
the whole process on a chain wheel after anno removal is about ten mins,  :daumenhoch:
and comes up mint
im sure there are even quicker ways but this is mine hope it helps

new school redline chainrings have the hardest anno on them ive ever come across.

oven pride will not shift it.
you will need caustic.

That chainring will polish up nice, as Dave says you need Caustic to shift the annodising.  I used a drill polishing kit on mine.  Here are the results.
