SuperMax CrMo
« on: November 02, 2007, 02:16 PM »
Malvern Star is an Aussie company that has been going since the mid 20th century, mainly responsible for road bikes but did a great range of BMX's in the 70's and 80's - here is my offering - The SuperMax CrMo. All I had to go on was some real helpful people (Waza, Jake, Coasty - Aussie legends!) and this advert

Spec:

1981 SuperMax CrMo frame
Tange TRX forks
Lightweight alloy bars
Araya 7c wheels with Suzue hubs, Shimano 17T freewheel, polished spokes, handbuilt - thanks Stidds!
Biggie small combination comp III tyres
Dia Compe 890 calipers with Shimano DX levers and DC cables
Takagi 175mm crank, 44T chainwheel and spider and bolts
KMC white chain
Tange bottom bracket
SR Custom M pedals - soon to be replaced by KKT lightnings
Suntour copy stem - soon to be replaced by MX-II stem
Standard tange headset - soon to be replaced by Hatta MX-II headset
Malvern Star grips - soon to be replaced by white Tange grips
Suntour seat clamp
Nagaoka fluted post
Jaguar Aero seat - soon to be replaced by white Elina Flyte Tech
Padset and decals excellently produced by Steve (Esemdesign/Firebird)

The not quite finished article:

Serious thanks to so many people, notably Mark @ Impreziv finishing for the paint job, Oliver at OldSchoolBMX.de for a load of help, Steve for always coming through with excellent quality decals and pads from the shitty scans and pictures I send him, Ginny for helping me source a pair of same brand biggie small tyres, CCA for the rimjob (oo-er), Waza for the frame and forks and MX II stem, Coasty for the info and chainguard when I can sort my paypal out, Robin, aka Burnaliser aka my housemate for sorting out the final bits with paypal - plus so many, many more!!

Updated today - some sweet Tange grips and I got a nice white seat - I wasn't happy with the pad colours I chose either, I think I should maybe get white pads with red lettering instead.

So here it is today..

Mmmm.... nice!

I'm really impressed by the decals from Steve too, amazing skills..

from a picture!!

Cool man, congrats on the posts ;)

(been there done that - on RB.com lol - you wouldn't think there's that much to be talked about in Burner land - oops - there's another spin off site for someone to coin lol)

So what's in the books then mate - any spec sheets of models? Anything on the Supermax, Crossrider or the Raleigh Rapier?
