don't know about skyways but with my aero zytecs I found the skyway style white blocks stopped me
but I was using Bulldog brakes and new school levers.

I also noticed I wore the blocks out in one session.

There are various remedies for improving the braking on Tuff wheels.
Depending on the colour of the tuffs you could ditch the Skyway blocks and use Dia Compe blocks instead.
You can also wipe Coca-Cola around the rim to improve grip (I kid ye not) but it's probably easier to use Cillit Bang, the theory being that as the Coke/Cliit dries it leaves a sticky residue.
Some people gently sand the braking edge so that the pads have something to actually grip on to.
I personally lube the brake cable inside of the cable covers and adjust the calipers so that the blocks sit about 1mm off the rims and squeeze like fook :2funny:

You must also take into consideration the increased braking distance that is required to stop the extra weight you've accumulated over the last 20+ years. You're not 11 any more you know ;D

I wouldn't do this.
Dwain Dibbly's blocks were burning up at Creation, the smell was real nice.  :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:

but then he is a mad man, for normal people it might be okay.

VANS brake shoes or TUFF pads will work fine if you set your brakes up nice, most other pads will wear out aftera days riding.

if you really want your brakes to bite , sand top  skin off brake blocks. clean rims with water, feather brakes as wheel spins to catch dirt and wipe with dry rag. with chrome rims this should work great now but plastic wheels may need more so dab a little jif (or is it cif now) lemon on the rim and spin wheel. feather brake as it spins. this will work good, sometimes too good. if too strong make a mix of water & lemon to weaken strength & reapply. and dont ride near wasps. ha.

Hi,

I didn t try all the "tips", but I change the pad "style" to genuine skyway... and nothing "better"... (are the new and long ones)
I will try to "brake in" a little to see whats happen.

I wil try out also the cleanning issue of the wheel?
does some one try with automotive brake cleaner spray?

I have a pair of dia-compe pads...
I wil also try...

But I have a alu rims that are beeing build... hope that works in the end...
and Skyway wheels remains for "show-off-poser-style"...  :2funny:

any others ideas.. are needed.

by the way the skyway wheels and pads are black.

I know that I´m not 15year old and no more 60kg anymore... but I remember that the brakes went fine at the time... with skyway... and I don t recall to have to do so many things to "brake" a little better.  :LolLolLolLol:

thats what I have now... with the black skyway´s.

the Cola on the rims was a thing fiola started on the GT tour in 84. It works too.

does the modern cola still do the job... or have I have to try to find "NOS" Cola???  :2funny:
