New Project - S&M Race Bike
« on: October 29, 2007, 10:01 PM »

This arrived today. Early 90s S&M Challenger frame and fork set (I also got the Challenger bars with it).

Will clean up nice with some elbow grease, but I'm in 2 minds whether to just build it and race it, or take my time with it, give it a new chrome or paint job, restore it to former glory and do it justice.  Either way, it will get built and ridden/raced in the OS race series.

Big thanks to Alex and Joe for the tip on this one  :daumenhoch:

Mike, that is gunna be great, whatever you do to it. Cant wait to see you racing it, it is bound to feel so much better than that funny little ally bike you ride in OS at the moment.

Im really glad you got it.

Cheers Alex.  I will try to do it justice.  It needs some TLC (at least a bit of spit and polish) and I've got the sticker man working on the new stickers (I'll let you know when they're done).

I love the way my Ripper looks, but you're right, it is tiny.

Thanks for the comments. I've decided to swap all the bits from my PK onto it just to get it built and ridden.  It might look a bit odd with Skyways, but fck it, I like them (I've gotta have Skyways on an old school build).

I'll decide how to restore/improve it over time.

But for now, it's just crying out to be built and ridden.

It'll look wicked with Tuffs.

If they are good enough for Mad Dog, on a Mad Dog ......

That's sealed it.  If Tuffs on an S&M were good enough for Mad Dog Moeller, they're certainly good enough for me!

I've never seen an S&M with 2 Tuffs on it before, only the front (ala Todd Lyons in his POW days).

Oi, them aint tuffs, thems graphites!!!!

Mike, that's a vinatage Chico hooke era challenger (i'm sure chicos one was exactly the same!).  It needs, spokes, chrome rims and spokes..........

Wicked find by the way, i'm sure the OS purists will sneer at it's TT length though if you try and race it..........maybe we need to have a mid school class!!!!????

Mine are Graphites as well (but new school ones)  ;)

As for the TT length, I bought it cos I thought it was a 20.5", but when I measured it, it's actually 20.25".  So it's shorter than a lot of the Robinsons, Haros and SE's that are out there.

But yeah, a mid-school class in future would be cool.  Then I could buy Joe's Standard Bicycle Moto Cross and race that.  I'll be bloody knackered though.  It's hard enough racing OS and Cruiser at meets, and if they introduce mid-school I'd want to race all 3  :idiot2:
