MRD bars query ID bars Please New pic added Help !!
« on: October 08, 2007, 09:50 PM »
Looking for a bit of info. Got 2 sets of Mrd bars pro size, one set braized , one set tig, both identical other than the tig set are slightly angled down at the ends. But this may have been done due to heavy riding. Has anybody got any idea when they swapped over on the welding front from tig which I assume are the early bars ( from what I have been told) to being braized like the frames. Also does anybody know who made the early bars? Was rumoured they were Star Bars rebadged but we have disproved that one.

Wasn't aware Tim had any welded bars, are you sure they're not Stars?  Tim just took the Stars to Rickman and got them to copy the for his brazed MRD's.  I'm seeing him tomorrow so i'll see what I can find out for you mate.

That's if he can remember of course!

mmm, i'd say NOT stars as stars had a wider bottom section (going further away from the stem before they went into the rise) and I  reckon stars had a slightly lower rise than these.  i'll get the big fella to take a look, i can't get him out of me shop at the mo, he must be bored.....

BTW Tim works just around the corner from my shop so he comes in for his tea's..........

Looking again, they might be GT pro's?  Stars and GHP bars had quite a lot of sweep on them too, those bars look quite sweepy.

Like I said Tim said defo not MRD, he only ever made brazed stuff.

Cross Bar is 16mm in diameter or 5/8 of an inch. Could they be any of the above?

Right a bit more info to c if we can nail these bars down.  ::)

Cross bar width is   295mm
Underside of crossbar to top of clamp tube is   145mm
Width is 28 inches uncut

could somebody measure up some SE's and Hutch to do a comparison? :daumenhoch:

here's some unstamped kuwi bars, ignore the apparent knurling as this is only marks from a stem

What they worth?  ::) Take it they are quite rare?

These probably need a rechrome cos they got a couple of scratches in the normal place where somebody has crashed head first say no more. :LolLolLolLol:

Many thanks to all especially the dudes who got it right :daumenhoch:

tis tricky without seeing them all in the flesh. The angle of the photo will have course make a difference to how the sweep appears too.
