prototype. i beg to differ!

i knew several riders who had a set of the 'love handles' first production had extendable arms which turned out to be crap as they came loose, so the second lot came with welded arms instead to cure the problem. i spoke at length with mat hoffman about the bars and their issues at backyard 96

these bars came with very short grip areas .. whereas I prefer long grips and simply added an extra secion of grip and left out the lever part

Nowt special about those bars (I thought that the topic title was a trick question!)

One of the bigger shops was selling these of cheap in the early '00s (it might have been Cyclesport!)

I think allot of people have gotten confused with these bars.

First of all came the og love bars with removeable grip sections.
Then they started to make other versions with supports and welded grip sections in taiwan.

The ones that came with free levers were 1" love handles ... and later on they also had a bar with a grip tube that was 1" and tapered down to 7/8".

The bars shown on the video are very similar to the first gen us made bars .... but they have small gussets and use a very similar sleeve to the og bars but they are not capped and furthermore welded (no threaded section) thus the grip area slides into a second tube as a support and better connection to the down struts.

Also the grip areas as small as stock, which looks like it was done to fit just and ODI mushroom and lever.

If anyone else has a bar like this gen or even a photo, please post it up as I would love to see it.

I have a set of those exact same bars as in that video.

I had some sent over from the states in about 96 but I was expecting the same vesion but without the gussets when they turned up.

I'll try and get a pic up at some point.

Cheers
