THE Homeless Vs S&M add
« on: October 05, 2007, 03:32 PM »
This is a Homeless add that was in US ride sometime in the early/mid 90s. As you can see, it was Homeless lettin rip on S&M. Homeless had a good thing going on, but some say they tried to hard with their image, even tho they really didnt need to (the Video 'Trash' said everything that needed to be said, it totally ruled). Notice that at the bottom of the page, the rider is credited as being "Not Jimmy LeVan" as at that time Jimmy LeVan rode for S&M.

The real thing about this add is that for the folling few months, someone ran the 'same' add, but with their own twist. Loads of bike companies all ran their own 'not Jimmy LeVan' add. There was even a point when US Ride themselves ran their own one the contence page. It would be great to get some more of them scanned in. For now, I just found this one, maybe others will follow.

That's hilarious.  The irony is that they were coming out of the same factory and made on the same jigs.  The welders would use S&M parts on Homeless, Brackens and Badd frames.  And vice versa.  Wow, Homeless was soooooo innovative.  Haha.  Still want a Mack though.

The first time I ever heard of Homeless was a pic of Ruben Castillo and the caption said "Homeless Ruben Castillo blah blah" and I actually thought Ruben Castillo was homeless cos I had never heard of Homeless bikes  :uglystupid2:

I loved that advert - very funny - I reode a dirtbike at the time and soon after I had a Homeless Mack. Tjose ads were one of the highlights of the mags in those days. I have al the ads in the mags ive saved from that era , all at my parents house! Got every Dig, Ride uk, invert and a few others .... soon my folks will demand I take them back - then im stuffed!

My dad did that with all my Beanos. He went on at me taking them for so many years that when I finally did, he kept on for a while after. It had become habit, even tho I had already moved them all to my loft. I wonder what they would get on Ebay?

How can you tell? Guess we have to remember which one used Kneesaver bars? James Shepherd normally rode with Bully/Forklifter bars didn't he?

Dave Parrick?

What's funny about that sandm ad is, it's written like they're still talking to the multi-million demographic of the 80's bmx peak, rather than the sub-thousand of us that were still riding...and not about to be patronised (or  was in irony that bypassed my devonshire simpleness!). Pound to a dollar it was written by mcgoo....or chris was so influenced by him he aped it.....shoulda written it as himself, all the mad dog stuff in bmxa ruled, and on the early sandm website.
