Early Mad Dog $$$
« on: October 05, 2007, 01:33 PM »
Okay, like probably a lot of you I've been watching this one with interest, especially as I knew Alex was looking for one:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=280157971754&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=018

With 12 hours left to run what do you reckon it's going to make at the end of the auction (note that it hasn't even cleared reserve yet!) ??

I think I said $500 on the other thread about it. I will stick with that.

(although that still might not make the reserve?)

I put a couple of bids in (max $450) just to see if the reserve was met and it wasn't, so I reckon $500.  No idea what it will get to though.  Maybe Moeller himself is watching it ready to swoop, just like Mat Hoffman bought his bike back in the Stephen Murray auction.

Good luck you guys who are bidding on it  :daumenhoch:

All these S&M band wagon jumpers! I bet they had never even heard of the K9 D-zine frame till this year  ::)

Im not sure this frame had and any true S&M links made to it. Just that it WAS made by CBR ... and so were the very very first S&Ms.

If you're not sure about it then I reckon the rest of us better not risk it (way too dear for me anyway!)

Could be the ultimate mid-schooler though it if was real though  :daumenhoch:

Surely this is old school isn't it?

That's what's cool about S&M - it transcends OS, MS and present day.

I had a bid of 440 on it, but wasnt really that interested in purchasing it lol
I did the same as dialled and put in such an offer just to see if i could meet reservation price.

S&M does seem to be the new hutch for midschool.

I think if it does sell it will be for just under 800 dollars ... but no one is really sure if this is a real s&m

When Chris and Greg started S&M, did they take frame drawings to Cook Brothers and say "make these" or were those early frames basically Cook Brothers frames which were customised to meet Chris and Greg's requirements?

If the latter, I can understand the confusion as to whether the one on Ebay is an S&M Mad Dog or a Cook Brothers frame.

But it certainly looks like a Mad Dog when compared to the few pics of Mad Dogs I have seen.

I can't bid that much $$ without being 100% sure.  I heard this ebay one had a TT of 18.5". Then a guy that has one says his TT is 19.25"?

I think the first "S&M frames" were modifications of Cooks bros frames.

*That frame on Ebay DOESNT have a chain stay brace at the BB. Every other pic of a Mad Dog Ive seen has got one.
*That frame on Ebay has got single dropouts, and I thought that all the early ones had doubled up dropouts (I could be wrong)

Non of that stops it being an early S&M proto type, an early Mad Dog or a K9 D-zine. The forks sure look like Mad dog forks (even tho they are single drop outs)

So what's really needed is an expert in later Cook Bros framesets? If they could say 'Nope, it's not a CBR' then we'd be almost certain??

Someone on another forum (whos user name was "CookBros. Fool") said it is DEF a Cook bros 20" (Jack W. special).

Then someone else posted these pics; totally the same frame. They said this black frame was a Mad Dog, but who knows if it wasnt just another Cook bros 20" (Jack W. special).

I reckon it's going to make around $650, as even if it's not a M.D you can guarantee it'll be worth that sum to a CBR collector (a lot of dough for the boys stateside considering how weak the dollar is)
