got these off my 86 performer i purchased a while back. the bike was built up as nos and im pretty sure these are as i cant find a scuff, chip or scratch any where and they run true, there is some ingrained dirt here and there but nothing a good clean wouldnt cure.What i need to know is , is the front a metal hub

and the rear an alloy hub

and also the front is lighter than the rear .There are some lighter patches on rear, Is the front lighter because there were different yellows on metal hubs and alloy hubs? or is this age and fade. Cheers Carl

Both are steel hubbed I think, the rear is the rarer rear cassette bodied one, early Tuff II's good find

shouldnt the hub face on the rear (flat) look the same as the front hub .?. im unsure Can anyone else confirm that they are both metal hubbed. Cheers Carl

The only tuffs I remember having a cassette style sprocket were coaster versions. Maybe these have an 'uncoaster' conversion kit?

Clive, the early Tuff II's like these had a cassette freewheel, definitely not a conversion, I had a black pair of these bitd and remember changing the rear cog for a 17t one.

Easiest way to tell if they are both steel hubs is to get a magnet and see if it sticks

got the old fridge magnet and sticks to front and rear

so they are both steel hubbed. the only thing i can think why the front is slightly lighter is that the bike came from greece and the bike was in his shop window so whether this caused the front to fade a touch?
