JMC Shadow- “The eye of the tiger” (Survivor)

I haven’t really got into building a full on Old School bike but last night I put this together, and I think it is about as old school classic as you can get. I have had it, pretty much as it is here, for about 15 years, and I got it off someone who used to race it long before that. It was built up with 1 1/4 rims but still has the XL stem and bars? I got hold of some 1.75 rims for it, but other than that, it is almost the same as I got it. It has been in bits for just about all of the 15 years I’ve had it. All the Hutch parts lived in a bucket in a leaky shed for ages. The frame, forks and bars had a trip to Exeter for several years but never got built up and the pedals and stem were used on an BMX/MTB mess of a bike I rode to work for a while. Unfortunalty I sold the Aerospeed cranks (that still hurts to type!), but after a bit of rummaging around the shed I found some profiles that are just right for it, and might actually hold up to being ridden! I couldn’t decide whether to put on Gen 2 or Gen 3 profile arms so I used one of each … well … that, and all I have is one of each! The seat has also gone missing so I (well, a mate of mine) found a nice Uni seat, so that solved the seat post as well. Im glad the frame has a built in seat clamp so I didn’t loose that!

Im probably not going to bother going anything more to it, maybe get the last few things on it so it rides. The frame is so short I cant see it being that nice for me. The whole thing sort of belongs to a mate of mine. He thinks it is his (and it probably is) but he aint never gunna ever use it, so as long as I don’t sell it there is no harm done.

Heres the parts run down:

Frame- JMC shadow
Forks- JMC Forks
Bars- JMC Darrell Young
Stem- Hutch 'Deep H'
Rims- Araya 7c, dark grey
Hubs- Hutch
Cranks- Profile Gen2 and Gen3
Chainring- Hutch powerdisc/tuffneck ring
Pedals- Hutch
Seat- Uni
Tyres- Comp3
Brake- DC Tech3/ winman claiper
Grips- Tange
Chain- No chain (show bike)

Some classic bitson a classic f&f there.  Would be even lovelier if you showed it some love, Alex, and restored it to former glory.

I do love a nice JMC, though I didn't know much about them first time round cos nobody I knew had one and none of the shops in Sheffield stocked JMC.

I cant really do restoration! Even if I start with totaly new parts, they usually end up looking well used by the time I have got them together. I think people who manage to build a whole bike and keep all the parts looking brand new are very clever ... or maybe just have better cup fitting methods to me!

Definitely pre-89 Alex as I think JMC closed its doors around 86 (sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

But the pre-89 rule is gone anyway.  Back to 1" threaded forks and caliper/pitbull brakes (no canti or v-brakes) as it was before.

Oh this one will be staying like it is for several reasons.

1) I dont wanna make "another" mint JMC build (Even tho I think mint JMC builds kick arse)

2) I really dont have the time or skill (or money) to restor it

3) If my mate ever does manage to get this bike back I dont wanna give him a free restoration on top of the free storage

4) I like it just how it is!!!!!  :4_17_5: (Although I will finish it of sometime and take it for a spin.)
