it'd be interesting to see the developement of the line,
i wanted to see the story boards better from the s&m party but couldnt find any close ups,

I heard 1 rumor (not sure if its true) but back in the day there was a rumor that some japanese distributor ordered 50 custom H.A.F frames but with a 18" TT ..... apparently you couldnt turn the bars without hitting the pedal pretty badly.

I think you could also order holmes with platforms and 990 mounts also BITD.

I have some old S&M pricelists arround my office , i can double check it .... I know S&M often made 1 frame with many different options (like challengers with 990 mounts etc)

Funny you say that YGT. My HAF has got an 18" TT!!!! it was with the strange canti braked one that Rory has got. I think they were from some custom order (or overflow of that order) that ended up in a shop in the UK

I was sure they were never THAT short! ha ha

YGT, what are you doing to me? My Challenger has got 990 mounts!!! ha ha

You could, and still can, pretty much get what ever you want from S&M (see DSDs custom LAF). I bet they made all kinds of strange frames over the years

I had one of the very first HAF frames when it first came out and I hated it SO MUCH.
I am sure its kicking arround somewhere in kent.

I had to saw out part of the chainstay where it met the dropout because the freewheel and chain would hit it.

S&M made some real nice frames over the years, but the HAF was definatly the unwanted step child.

I also remeber recieving newsletters from backyard distro (70's distro) and they were trying to sell short HAF frames .... that was when the script text decals came out ...

I have got a few HAF frames, one is an early one cos it doesnt have the stamped top tube. I will measure the top tubes of all them and see how they differ.

I dont really like the script text decals. The fat pink ones were much nicer. I had a set of the fat decals and I dont think I used them on anything. Im hoping they'll turn up one day inside a big book, where I had put them for saftey!

They were one of the first 1 1/8th A-head BMXs, (1 1/8th A-head standards were out the first, just before S&M managed to get theirs finished). Check out that nice early 1 1/8 redneck!

There was also the whole 1" clamp on thing going on at the same time. No one was really sure what way was going to end up being the "normal" size, and you couldnt get gyros and that for 1 1/8th.

Good work guys.  Incredible that S&M has made so many classic frames.

Can't wait to pick my 1" Holmes up from the US now and set to work restoring it.

I know. Even if you lump all the Dirtbikes together, all the Holmes together, and even all the 24"ers together, there have still been over 20 S&M frames over the years! I guess thats only 1 a year tho! ha ha.

I'm gonna get the 990 lugs removed from my 1" Holmes and run a caliper on it so I can race it (assuming the seat stay plate/bridge is drilled/slotted).

It should be, I think all the 1" Holmes and Dirtbikes were able to take a sidepull brake. The 990s were an option for ages so and the rest of the frame was the same.

seems a bit of a shame to butcher a nice mid school frame only to race it against the old school like,
it'll be carbon forks with caliper brakes next! :LolLolLolLol:

can i put the tt lengths in the list that i know of?
