Chainring/Sprocket for my Shorty!!!??
« on: September 09, 2007, 06:20 PM »
All i had kicking around for spare chain ring was a 44tooth. I noticed when i put the 990 on the chainring hits it. So i guess i'll be going smaller. I saw on Ebay there are Odyssey Battle gear sprocket for cheap. they come in smaller sizes. Would they be era correct for my shorty build? Or should i look for something else?

44 would be perfect have you spaced the cranks away from bb

Dan

I'm using some 1piecers on this build. I guess i could add another washer or 2 to them.

I was thinking of running a 40-42 sprocket?

those battle gears are like 3 for $15 so I could get a 3 different sizes.

thanks for the help guys.
I may swap my 42 peregrine from my master to the shorty and run my Fusion disc on the master. Or just buy a different one.

I have it together. need brakes for the front. Thinking a 990plate and brake. I wanna find some clear cables for it also.

I have pics but can't post them right now. I'm using my folks PC. mine is down right now. should be back up in a couple days.
Maybe I'll bring my camera over and put them up for you later.

So would a battle gear be ok to run on this build? or is it a newer chainring? I saw them in  a 97 issue of plus.

available in power disc so run and ring gear you like.

wicked looking bike, nice one. I didnt like the first standard frames but they changed BMX design and aproch to design for the better. That looks great. Looking at it really brings it all back.

If you mess around with the brake block spacers you can alter the 'spread' of the AD, ie make it a little narrower so it sits just inside the sprocket without hitting it.  Plus, you may find that with the brake all set up and tensioned it naturally sits OK with the sprocket.  :)

I recall a few bikes brakes hitting the sprocket when they were just hanging there with no cable fitted/connected.

Looking good.
If you really want it to look more 90's then chop off the nose of the seat, and angle it up (aswell as lowering the seat post)

As for sprocket, definatly needs a peregrine CD

Battle Gear is too new IMO I'd go for a fusion CD or a Profile Ripsaw.  :daumenhoch:

standard riders at the time favoured aither one of the old gt disks (joe rich, sandy) peregrine (friemuth) or the mongoose one that had a 19mm drilling(krt and rick). all in 44t.
