crank assemply - please help out a total novice
« on: September 05, 2007, 09:11 PM »
right, as promised heres my first novice resto question. i need to know in which order each of the components goes together. heres a pic of all the parts i have.

sorry for incorrect terms, but i have ball race bearings x 2, small washer, tapered nut, slim nut, and large plate.

took me a while to figure out the nuts are obviously reverse threaded to stop them coming undone when you pedal. heres the pieces mocked up with my best guess. i think i may have the bearings facing in the wrong direction?

to clarify from the crank gear i have the 2 bearings, then the tapered nut, the large plate, and finally the slim nut. i wasnt sure where the washer goes. i have since degreased each of the parts and they look pretty good. when i come to put them together for the final time im guessing i pack the bearings with grease? any advice would be great. cheers. steve.

Washer will go between the taper nut and the locknut, give it a clean first ;)
