John Povah raleigh Freestyle Ace
« on: November 16, 2005, 10:04 AM »
Sreading the word about this great site to some of my old Bmx mates, the name John Povah cropped up. He was an old friend i used to ride with in the 80's, he was sponsered by Raleigh when Sam Wood was in charge, i quit about this time and John then Emigrated to the States with his Folks. Rumour  has it that he rode for someone decent out in the USA. Can anyone fill in the gaps?
On another note, the same pub conversation brought up the rumour that Neil Ruffell had died, any truth in this sad news? Darryl

I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,

Billy's about right!

I did have a helmet called a "Pro Shooter" by AGV in 85.
It didn't last long and it wasn't my idea before you all start on me!

Did you chose those colours Geth, you could have had something a bit brighter, mind you it is grim up north  ;D

Back on to the subject of John Povah there was an interview with him in Ride mag a few months back.  ;)

Yeh, I read that Bill - it was from the month I got back into BMX...looks like he's really happy with life in the states.

I remeber him from the Raleigh days with Sam Wood, as I lived just down the road from from Sam and was friends with Darren Wood.

I did a demo with the Raleigh team up in Tamworth once, 1984/5?, I seem to remember John being there, together with Jason Lunn...it was a great day...got some pics somewhere...

I tracked John down a good few years ago, and we spoke on the Phone.  He was managing the Schwinn Team.  Top Bloke. He went out
with the Simon Bisley's sister ( a comic artist )sister (who incidentally was on gladiators in the UK).  Haven't spoken since then, but was always a really good bloke.
