tuf neck stem help and mx1000 question
« on: August 24, 2007, 03:43 PM »
O.K.  I got this on a torker I bought, unfortunately the top and bottom don't marry up as the bolt on the shaft digs in to the top.  Any ideas if this can be fixed ie rotate the big nut so doesn't dig in, or, is it a case of the top and bottom are from two different stems???  I also got some black mx1000's on the same bike, bit knack like, now the issue is one of the arms on each is bent, can I tap tappity it straight or are they as I think too brittle? pics of stem below for your consideration.

Tuf Neck mini stem there , if you know a good metal worker/fabricator he could make that bolt head smaller or just undo and see if it will re-tighten in a different place .

Heat the MX arms up ?

Tuf Neck "Ace" stem ... very nice  :coolsmiley:

The quill looks off centre in your pics ... undo the main bolt by clamping an old set of bars or a seat post in the stem

Align the quill making sure the taper sits central under the stem. Tighten the main bolt as tight as possible and make sure the flats are across the stem to clear the top cap

Use heat to help straighten the caliper arm

Hope that helps  :daumenhoch:
