The freezer!
« on: August 21, 2007, 11:48 AM »
who ever said putting bearing cups in the freezer helps to get them in easier??  i stuck my headset cups in mine for a week........got everything ready, then whipped em out and expected an easy job............20 minutes later and a lot of banging with hammer and wood i still have a GT Mach one with no headset installed and a nice looking black headset still in it's box!  >:(

fooking poxy bearing cups!!   :tickedoff:

i always use the freezer method and it works fine but they dont just fall in they just dont require whacking as much, anyway i was putting headcups in my elf last weekish and dug the cups out of the freezer to fit, normally they start stickin to my fingers as they so cold but they didnt so.......for some insane reason i put my tounge on it to see if it was really cold (i know, i know WTF was i thinking) i just thought id flick it really quickly with the tip of my tounge, fook me it was like a skin magnet it just sorta sucked loads of my tounge towards it, i fookin shat myself, now theres a nice bit of tounge on my bearing cup and my mouth was fookin yuckin for days :uglystupid2:

i wasnt gonna tell anyone as i was angry as fook with myself when i did it, but ye have ta laugh dontcha :LolLolLolLol:

Buy one of these, they're great & a sound investment if you are doing few...

so you go o all that trouble to build a nice o/s bike then just pound away at the cups with a hammer!  :daumenhoch:

if you want to do the job properly just buy a cup press,
or do like i did years ago and make your own,

a length of threaded rod,2 1cm thick plates drilled to accept the rod and two bolts, voila!

It's like a battery and a womens arse - you know you will end up sticking your tongue in it at some point  :2funny:

The funny thing about this thread is - when I sold Pickle the Mach One - I said he could keep the headset and buy me a new one !

Pickle.....get yourself a new freezer :LolLolLolLol:

I was a bit dubious about the freezer trick, I can't remember who mentioned it to me but tried it for the first time a couple of weeks ago and both the BB and headset cups went in a treat :4_17_5: Only left em in the freezer for about 10 minutes and only needed a slight coaxing to get em in, jobs a good un..........ner ner ne ner ner  :LolLolLolLol:
