Snowflakes were never said to be stronger.  They were done simply because they looked different or the builder got the wrong length spokes for the build.

I think this woulod warrant a good debate, originally they were touted as being stronger but dismissed by traditional wheel builders (usually because they didn't want to do them or couldn't do them); I would be interested in knowing whether they really were.  We built and sold heaps at Heff's Bike Shop and no-one seemed to come back with busted wheels but then we never had a great number of regular wheels coming back in etiher  :-\.  The ones I rode always felt stiffer and had a lot more "spring" at gates but I could never be sure.

Del,

Looks good cranks will be interesting to see what the arms are, but you've got most of your money back in the stem alone :daumenhoch:

Yeah, twistlace wheels were well popular at one time.  From what I saw, definately stronger.  But the reason they were stronger (I reckon)  was because they were better tensioned as each spoke pulled against its neighbour, and so they remained tauter for longer...

However,  snap one spoke and it has the effect of snapping two as t'other spoke in the twisted pair lost all its tension.

Going back a few years, it used to be an old MX trick to lockwire or ziptie your spokes where they crossed, as this was thought to do the same thing; hold the spoke tension better/longer.   ;)

Well I just got back home and what an amazing day its been. I've always read in amazement how people find bmx bike/part scores and always thought it would never happen to me. So to start with I picked up my bargain ebay win today, nice fella too. Early 90's GT interceptor with some nice parts... GT bars, Tuff Neck Stem  :smitten:, Peregrine 48's, suntour pedals etc. Pretty good score.
BTW Does anyone know what cranks set it is, here some pics:-

Anyway, previous to that something else happened. Let me take you back to last week, I'm at work, bump into a colleague, I'm wearing a BMX Plus T-Shirt, he says "Ah a man after my own heart", I says "oh? you used to ride BMX?". Roll forward to this morning, same colleague rings me up "what you doing later? I have something in the car for you"

Green Master with some Haro bars, MX1000's in white and some later Master forks!  :D
SO Im on cloud nine and before I run off with my stash he says .. Oh and I got these but dont know if they're any good to you now... only a set of Redline 400's with MKS Graphites in very good condition.

Ok long story over I'm so stoked I had to tell somebody, her indoors just doesnt understand why I'm so excited.. somebody pinch me.. All I need now is Jessica Alba to walk through my door and the day is perfect.... and breath!

the wheels were mainly cosmetic look they never rearly caught on in a big way.
i had a front i bought from a shop when they scratched a rim and the customer didnt want it
they were not only cross laced the spokes had a twist along the center and anodised green and purple.

Dan - no worries if i bust a spoke I will measure.. doubt I'll be selling them as it one of the main reasons I bought the bike.

Bru -  :LolLolLolLol: that's why I reminded you today about that frame   :D

Paul - not sure yet, might put it back to its original green if I can find a close match with the powder/paint.

Anyone know what the cranks are on the GT Interceptor?

Well done on the find, now go out and buy a lottery ticket.
Saw wheels like this on holiday in May in the States, old school rider running his own shop. Builds new school stuff snowflake style.
