hutch trickstar
« on: August 14, 2007, 09:20 PM »

Some things are puzzling me ::) I thought I'd ask you guys cos there has to be reason.

 1. Why do Hutch trickstar's go for such big money? Compared to Haro's, GT's etc from same era. They are frequently for sale ???

 2. Why do so many of them not have the original forks anymore, once again Haro's and Gt's are nearly always f&F  :-[

 3. Last question....honest.....How did Hutch manage to make such a balls of bringing out an improved model :-X The Mk2 trickstar is down right ugly :idiot2:

Apologise's if you've got one, just my opinion of course.

I can't really say why for your first 2 questions but your right on number 3. Why the fook would they go backwards in design and ruin any dignity they had in style and quality. Surely on the drawing board it looked shite, didn't anyone stop and think" Hang on a minute lads we've dropped a bollock here......"

I wonder how many Biagio's stuck with....he's got them on ebay week after week....

Some good points...here's what I think:

1. I think they go for more money because there are fewer about in comparison to GTs and Haro's. And also because they feel very high-end (rightly or wrongly) to their peers. And also they are very beautiful.

2. The early ones were race forks with pegs welded on, so were naturally a little weaker. Most I see seem to have original forks though.

3. What the fook were the design team thinking on the Trickstar II? All I can say is that they must have been developed by a team of mutant inbred deaf dumb and stupid people. It's retarded.

Oh, and here's mine.

Ooooo is that a little bit of sex wee?

reason a lot don`t have forks is they bent easy well mine did bitd ,price wize i think it`s because it`s hutch and that say it all as in they don`t exist so that put the price up ,also loads of haro`s out there ie 85 onwards as shiners still had them for years later . also yeah trickstar 2 was a nightmare but at the time good to ride on tho

What is the head angle of a trickstar? It looks way steep? I guess even more so cos its got a semi leading axle slot.

Didnt Hutch change hands, and is the trickstar II even made/designed by the same "Hutch" people?

If it did change hands that kinda makes sense, they gave it over to CW's california design team :D

Don't know figures on head tube angle, but sat next to my master they look very similar if not identical.

That would explain the missing forks then stuntmaster :P You've only to look in RAD muso Hutch section to see how many are missing forks, crazy.

As for you Dave, I might have guess you'd have a corking trickstar just waiting to upset me ;D ;)
If you ever decide to part with it, please let me have first dib dobs, if you have any spare forks ;)

Hutch were always expensive, even back in '86-'87 complete bikes were running 600+ compared to 300 or so for a GT.
They pioneered the use of high-end metals in their products (titanium/magnesium) when no-one else (in BMX) was doing it.
I do also think most of it is hype, like the Bentley or Rolls Royce of BMX... but they are nice bikes (except the Mk II).

That just about sums it up. Back in 84 and now. Hutch are as camp as a row of pink tents. Always have been and always will be...remember the pink outfits?!

But the Pink Pound is fooking valuable. Apparently.

I don't think Trickstars go for as much as an 84 Gen 1 Master, or 84 Gen 2 Master, they go for about the same as a 84 Gen 3 Master. 85 Masters are only cheaper because there is loads of them about.

If you take SteveP Trickstar, he is asking £350 with the Bars, which have to be worth £50 easy, so that makes the Frame & Forks about £300, you won't find many 84 Performers or Masters in the same condition for a lot less than that.

I think all the hard to find Frame & Forks are getting good money now.

I think you're right Steve on the Jap made trickstars (like steves), but good USA ones and Chrome first gen Ladder bars are fetching a lot more in the UK. I would say around £100 on the bars alone...

Nice rides Stuntmaster.  :daumenhoch:

Dave's right early us made trickstars fetch top money even without forks, although I have to say you see more of them for sale than you do Gen2/3 Masters.

As for all the hutch bits, stem, bars etc. Don't get me started on there prices, If your going to build a hutch trickstar with all the correct bits your going to need deep pockets, I'm sure a proper master (84) would be a more sensible complete build option :P

The hutch cranks go for more than my complete old school collection cost me :D

Ill get off me crizzle mound now dig deep and start building me trickstar, at the end of the day you know your gonna build one, its like some sort jedi mind trick :idiot2:
