Help. What the fook is the coating on a Hutch Headlock???

I'm trying to make a NOS black Hutch Headlock silver...but can't seem to shift the black. What the fook is it?

Could it be powder coated?, a bastard to remove that stuff.

Dave, they're anodized and shiny underneath with a bit of buffing and puffing

dave if its like the tuf neck stems.
i had to nitromors mine first to get the top coating off.
them oven pride it to get the colour off.

give that a go.
if that dont work.
hit it with a big hammer.

it wont get the colour off but you'll feel much better  .

I tried overpride last night, didn't shift a thing...but it does look like annodise. I'll find the Nitromors tonight and try your suggestion Dave.

It is matt black at the moment...very strange.

BTW Rumor has it that the headlocks are magnesium not alloy - is this the case Hutch fans?

I also had same trouble with a tuf neck stem had to resort to an acid bath. Have a few litres of sulphuric acid in me workshop i could try it in if you like. Heat and acid is the trick!! Bit leery though

maybe it's black all the way through, by the time your scratched through the black there's nothing left !

mmmmmm...mine has a different header card, but it does look the same headlock...ahh decisions decisions.

My deep H stem bitd was matt black , sounds the same

I 've got one here that's used, I scratched away at the threads, it is shiny under there...
