Early Oversized Challenger
« on: July 25, 2007, 08:03 PM »
I few months ago a friend asked me to look out for a challenger for him. He wasnt bothered about year, he just wanted a nice S&M race frame and quite liked the challenger. This frame came up on Ebay USA. I wrote to the guy, and not only would he ship to the UK, he also had the challenger forks and stem He even did me a deal on some crank arms he was also selling.

The box came this week and my mate just bought it all round for me to check out (and build for him, ha ha). Its a bit of a strange one cos its 1 1/8th, with the clamp on Challenger stem and forks, but its got the seat stay wish bone like the 1" challengers had. I guess its an early Oversized challenger, the guy said it was 1995. Its even got the cable stop for cantilever brakes so its pre Vees.

NICE!

Hey alex, yes thats an early overszed one.
its exactly the same as the one we have on bykestore.com ....... (your forks look befier though)

However the one we have actually had a decal set on it that was pre the one shown, but I am not too good with memory but I think it had a challenger decal set with flags and italian flag colours?

very nice frame however.

Good find!

Mark

I have got some pics of challengers at S&M in 94 with the same stickers as the ones you have the scan off (with the chequered flag and the gear chart). They were 1" frames then but they must have moved to Over sized soon after that. I'd still like to get a copy of that sticker scan from you. They would go great on my red challenger.

Oh, and the frame is an XL, so yes Dan, it is long (Ive not measured it yet tho)
