i havent tried that ,i wouldnt recommend but it still might be ok.
i wouldnt want the stuff to eat the hub,around the hub the crossing of spokes will be tricky as its tight.

strip em mate
will add a couple extra hours to the whole job, but only the same time trying to strip them and polish them with spokes in the way would!

me myself and i wouldnt do it mate ,and i have done a few radical things.
it might be fine but still ,i wouldnt only my opinion.

Use Oven Pride as it's less aggressive and you should be OK.  Soak kitchen paper with it and wrap the kitchen paper round the hub.  You will probably end up with a few spot but use a cotten bud soaked in Oven Pride on those bits  :daumenhoch:.

you can do it!
do one at a time
rebuild it copying the other wheel
you'll see how it works and see how straightforward it is!

I am the same mate, I suppose I need to have a go at some stage but need to find some shat rims and hubs to practice on ???

Dave did those Suntour ones built up I reckon ( were red now polished , did them for Pete ? ) , flat container with the right amount of pride so it just goes up to the bearings and roll backwards and forwards ? .

I'm sure Dave will enlighten us  ;)
