i'm trying to get my hawk f24 up and running and its got a horrible creak when  putting pressure on while pedaling.  i put a new chain on it, same. i tightened every up , same. i changed the back wheel , same. i changed the chain wheel, it had gone.  i looked at my chain wheel that was on there and it had a little bur on every tooth so i thought it might be catching on the chain.  so i set it up on the lathe and cleaned it all up, put it back on, same :'( :-[ :( >:( :2gunsfiring_v1:

its a dmr one and i supposse its for mountain bikes, does this mean i'm using the wrong chain, my chain is a kmc £5 jobby.  do i need the other (racing) size chain and would i need a new freewheel too.

please help before i smash it all up in a fit of rage...

In my experience creaks like that are usually caused by the pedals.

Like Dan said but also check to see if it's out of true, i.e. not flat as the chain will pull it across as it rotates, other than that I have no idea  :-\.

we are listening rakas ,i was just checking the obvious as the new disc might have been a tad thicker
so you might have just got away with it with the other disc.
check the crank arms arnt catching anywhere  ,also some discs are off center and you might have a tight spot.

Also, you might want to try and put copper grease on all the touch points of the chainring such as the axle hole, fixing bolt hole.  Is there much movement around the axle hole at all or is it a sung fit on the axle?

I have had a terrible creaking noise before on my old Hutch and was convinced it was the Crank but turned out it was actually the Pedals were to tight.

What size Chain are you using is it definately 1/2" X 1/8" or is it the narrower race size? Might be worth investing in a better Chain anyway?

As others have said the disc could be slightly off centre which will throw it all out of line.

Good luck and hope you sort it out.

Bodamus :)

right, i've put my 39 tooth xposure one on that was on my single speed mountain bike and its not creaking. so i'm gonna order a new one of those and do the cnc'ing again..

thanks for all your input fellas, luckily the bike never did get ghost ridden into the m25 traffic. :daumenhoch:
