« on: July 05, 2007, 01:40 AM »
having noticed dingos thread with everyone talking about the jive grips, what sort of year were they?  i've just found some not bad nick black ones with the writing in a box of bits that i've had for years. also , are they quite rare cos i dont think i've seen any for sale.

yeah late 80's sounds spot on. Freestylin' mag was the first place I spotted them and it ended in '89 (well, changed to Go)

keep an eye out on ebay, they crop up from time to time. i got these about a month ago:

the new school jives are the best (from 2 or 3 years ago) but you can't seem to get them anywhere now

i emailed jive a few times but no reply, no shops seem to have any

and if you're gonna ride with them then stay away from the transparent ones, they're like plastic

Dingo, I just realised you have the new school ones - do you wanna sell em?

I used to love Jive handles they wore out real fast and were best when they were about to wear through to the bar!

They came in a cool box too which was ideal for storing tapes!

I bet you didn't know that Seattle Grunge band Soundgarden were sponsored by Jive?    (jeez my useless trivia is never ending!)

my current ones have a big hole in them but they're still too good to chuck

i hate thick or new grips, jives wear in so quickly which is why they're perfect

Ive just had this debate with my mate.

He swears by Am'e rounds because they just dont wear out and he hated jives cos they were too thin!

i think it also matters if you wear gloves or not

hard grippy grips ie. A'ME are ok with gloves

personally i hate wearing gloves

I used to love Oakley "O" wings. They were real thin and very rough. They took about a day to wear in ... and about 2 days to wear out. I used to get them from Hotwheels for 99p a pair (in the early 90s). I had pink ones, yellow ones, loads of them. At one point I asked Hotwheels if I should get several pairs incase they ran out. They said there was no problem cos they had hundreds of them. I bet they wish they hadnt sold them for 99p a pair now!

Oh, and I dont ride with gloves. Unless its real cold, or real hot (sweaty)

i remember those......they had a little wing type thing at the end of the grip, I had a pair of them in Lavender (didnt they come with a free pair of do-nuts too?)

Thats them. Wing at the end, came with a do-nut. Here is my bike with a pair of white ones on. The pic is from 1994. Check out the clear blue and clear pink longnecks on the other bikes.
