That looks very good what sort of money does he charge, and does he reverse the process to strip old chrome? Could be worth putting in the good and bad chrome platers thread. I'm waiting to receive my Proline frame and forks that has been painted over the tired chrome.

John,

The frame looks like new.

Can you pm me about how it was when you received it. I had a f+f done by Len a couple of months back and to be honest am not too happy with the finish just not sure if it can be fixed by extra polishing or it needs redoing :(

Thanks

Paul

Hey Frosty,

The frame was pretty poor when I bought it buddy.... chrome peeling everywhere and marking on the dropouts etc. Took it to Lens and he de-chromed it and gave it an initial polish. I then took it away and got to work on it myself. Spent a whole day on it getting into the nooks and crannys that Lens gear couldn't get into, using loads of autosol, grinding and polishing wheels on a standard drill. Was really hard work but the actual metal looked almost as shiny as chrome when I was done. Then took it back to him and he went over it once more with his gear over  the main tubes etc. Then it was chromed. It's a fabulous job but don't get me wrong it isn't flawless... but I am really really fussy. The chrome is slightly gold around the hole on the rear brake bridge, back of seat clamp area and under the front triangle gussets. Would say it was a million times better than the chrome you got on Redlines back in the day... looking back it was quite poor really! Overall I'd give it 9.5 out of 10 I guess. I always find Len really helpfull... maybe give him a buzz and see what he suggests buddy.

Cheers

John

I may do, it really is the post chrome polish I think as he seems to have run a polishing wheel across the rear drop out without going between the seat and chainstays >:(

As far as I know Frosty... once the frame has been chromed there is no polishing done at all!

Cheers

Does anyone do early Proline decals and do they say Proline on them anywhere or are they just  like Squareback decals? Never seen an early Proline that says Proline on it!

the first one here is the earliest, 1979/80. the next is 1981/82. after that they were known as PL-20.

Those are the ones, it's hard to read the proline text in the black and white pictures out of old mags! Where does the decal just under headtube decal on sheet go? Also how many of the small ovals are usually fitted and where. Has anyone got a decent pic of a 79/80 proline with the decals fitted? I'm thinking of doing mine like an early 1980 Stompin Stu replica.

:LolLolLolLol:   Can add it to my list, good lad is doing me some for another mini when he gets a chance  :4_17_5:  Do you reckon its worth trying to save as much of the existing ones as possible to give him summat to work with Tony?

Take as many hi-res shots as you can and save as much as you can, may be worth measuring the existing as well, including location :daumenhoch:

gotta agree ron. that was the very first issue of bicycle motocross action i ever bought, which may explain my preference to redline and Stu  ;)

the little oval proline products sticker will be for the front of the fork where you would normally bolt front brakes on and another will be for the handle bar just underneath the v-bar on the left hand side. the other 2 you can use were ever you want.
