Praise the lord that there are still manufacturers still making stuff IE threaded headsets and caliper brakes. You get all the old school legal parts  but not the hassle of trying to find them and a bit more reliable too.

the folowing statement may put noses out of joint,

if i had my way

the rules would state

"no part on a bike shall be later than 1984 production"( by doing this i alienate a lot of bikes already raced in the series )

after all 79 to 84 is our classic era of OSBMX here in the UK,not 1979 to 1989 as some folks seem to have got confused

so no long TT,s a maximum of 19 1/4" and or no long reach stems either

coz running a bike like this you would only be cheating yourself and others in this fine class

peeps complain bout this theory when i sound off at the races
quoting to me bout how tall we are now compared to our teenage size

well, i keep saying the same thing, my answer never changes

stu thompsen and andy patterson to name but 2
and not to sound obvious were big lads, plus 6 footers
bigger than we were then and as big as we are now,

riding bikes we all rode, with the only modfication being
layback seat poles or pedal cage extenders.

so after all that jazz

i still say "your whole complete bike you intend to race in OS
must have no parts on it made after 1984"

i suppose we have to be leanient
coz most fellas either havnt got the era bikes or are not prepared
to do what the bike was made for
and thats to ride it,get it dirty or maybe god forbid crash it and break somthing precious ;)

I think that all sounds good, but the cost of old wheels etc is alot theses days , so i, fitting new ones to save money ,not because they are better, i would love some nice old wheels but i couldnt afford to replace them if broke , allso i think as long as most parts are old, and the frame is old , that should be ok  :daumenhoch:

I for one would not want to be buying original rare old school parts and being ripped off with over inflated prices :idiot2:my bars date after 1984 and so does my haro seat and i rode these and my old bike i no longer have from 84-87.the important components are frame and forks and brakes.if someone used new 3 peice cranks or pedals/stem etc i would not have a problem.

I remember racing pro-tec around 85-86 and he was riding a really early haro freestyle frame and forks and the C**t beat me at a regional at harvington raiders :knuppel2:i kick he's ass in the moto's winning all 3 and he beat me in the final.

and believe me when i scratched me NOS elina seat the other day in practice
i was not happy,

having paid for two kids to race, and i'm sure any one who races new school would agree  :-\ , it cost alot more to race new school than old school. if your using your ''old school'' to race, why buy new  ??? ? second hand parts go for cheap prices, surly it makes sence to use these if your using the bike  ::)

and just to add my ten pen'oth worth. i think the cut off date should be '86  :police: all parts

alan  ;)

The OSSS07 rules stated pre 1989 frames and forks with 1" headset and caliper brakes, allowable new school equipment is tubes, chains, brake blocks and if we must tyres!!. As much as we could be anal and say pre 1984 bikes and no new school bits, remember we do it for fun, and it shouldnt cost fortunes and the allowable bits are more for safety than anything else. :daumenhoch:
