Old School BMX Magazine
« on: June 21, 2007, 12:04 AM »
It's probably been mentioned before but do you think there would be a market for a BMX magazine dedicated to old school.

Help and advice for old schoolers getting into new school bikes, features on old school riders....like a where are they now type thing etc. etc. I was thinking about it today and I think it would probably work if it was done right.

What's your thoughts?

Cheers.

Daz.

I had thought about this last year and I think it was mentioned on here.  To be quite honest, I don't think there is a market for it.  Anything that would appear in it, would have probably already been posted on here.  The only purpose of it would be that it would be something you could keep hold of.  Despite the fact that we have over 2700 members, we probably only have about 200-300 active members.  You'd then maybe if you're lucky have about 50-60% interested in buying a magazine.  The cost to produce a low volume magazine is too high.

It's a great idea in theory, but to expensive in practice.

Start off as an underground mag or keep it as a webzine like what some dude did on OS.

I know that printing a magazine is too expensive but what about doing it as an E-Book (pdf) you could then ever freely distribute it or put it on a cd and nice case
and sell them with radbmx getting the profit :daumenhoch:

It loses that magazine feeling when you have to read it of a screen.

a zine style mag would be a great idea.  i also think if it were quarterly or something, then we could fill it quite comfortably and people would be more likely to buy it.

That's it then - Old School Zine (as in scene) it is then.

Quarterly zine with interviews, where are they now, who's who, what's what etc.

I'm gonna do it I think....any ideas or input please PM me.

I'll also PM Bill S and the boys to make sure they're ok with it.

I think with all the Retro bikes appearing at the mo, there may be a new audience who might wish to venture into our old school world...so it may possibly work.....perhaps leave flyers/leaflets at Skateparks ::)
