front brake cable?
« on: June 19, 2007, 01:01 PM »
right....i have fitted a new AD990 on the front of my bike, it works well but i used an old cable which was stretched more than big daddies leotard!!

so can i just use any old type of brake cable (clarks from Halfords) or is there a type i should be looking at??

Thanks in advance  :daumenhoch:

Easy! Easy! Easy!

Hi Pickle,

You can use pretty much any cable if it's well lubed, but I'd go for one of the many slic cables out there (oddy, animal, etc).
No need for the linear slic type, just the regular type is well suitable.

Linear cables dont tend to work that well on a "potts bolt"ed front cable cos they dont bend as well as a coiled cable. I have got a linear one on my front brake. It pulled fine, and it dead smooth but its always rubbing on the front tyre cos I cant bend it enough for it to clear.

don't worry about it being a linear for the front, ain't necessary. regular slic is fine.

I ran one (A Bike) on my front brake for a short while as there were supply problems with Oddyssey, piss-poor.  Local shop finally got some Odyssey back in and I swapped it over, no brake pad adjustment just replacing the cable.  Front brake is spot-on now.

Oh, and the slic linear is more for the front than the rear as it can take tighter turns without binding.  I use them for both though.

the lin slicks better for both as you can bar spin or tailwhip with out your brake binding
