He was quiet bitd but I though he was a nice kid, always found him to be pleasant.

He was a superb rider as well, smooth as glass, note the CC stylee footplant at Southsea in my avatar  ;)

We had a bit more freedom when Barry Scott-Web was running it, but Peter Hawkins was more business minded so it was run quite strict, which was one of the reasons I fell out with him and got dropped from the full factory team  :(

not much malarky?  tell that to carlo...  :LolLolLolLol:   i do think they wanted their team to be very professional, but at the end of the day they were just kids.  i think eddie roman started to change the team to make it a bit more hip...

Carlo was waaaay to young back then, but Im sure hes made up for it. Pete ran it as a business and he was an adult in a kids world back then, can understand why the team were frustrated - specially the older guys - but he was in charge of arguably the most talented team of the time.

Interesting thoughts here....yeah, he was strict and business like....he treated it like an Olympic team, freestyle was never meant to be like that, that's why it's called FREEstyle. As soon as we saw how much fun the skateboarders were having, (Check out Bones Brigade I and II) we soon learned what was up. Check out the pic of Craig after the Slough demo, with Eddie Roman in the background, we were having fun then. Nick Phillips helped brake those chains for freestyle. Although some people might have liked the whole UKBFA scene. Still, we had a good laugh on the team, we were young and naive, it was a big adventure, that and having a headmaster like manager made it all the more of a laugh to get away with crap and have a good giggle.

Bill - you and Chris had the right idea by bailing early on.

Muggs on a mission......

It all helped shape where the sport is today - from the UKBFA and Colin Kefford (god bless his soul) to Nick the Anarchist and Crazy Eric. From Mr Hawkins to Mr Hyson......different strokes indeed.

bonkers where its all ended up though.................. :daumenhoch: :Great_Britain:

IMO Peter coverted the Skyway job because he wanted to get Craig on the team that had the best image at that time, and at that time I came with the job as I`d made a good impression with Dean Ellison (Skyway MD at the time) and Ken Coster on the European Tour in 83, but Chris either decided not to carry on with Barry gone or got dropped by Peter when he took over.
A little while after Peter taking over I signed a proper contract with Freewheeler/Skyway and got to choose all the parts for my T/A, we started to stay in hotels when away up north doing demos, then Paul Hudson joined the team as a flatland specialist and we had Sam Woods as on the mike when we did demos so in that respect it did become more professional, however it also became like a job and the fun went out of bmx for me a bit, so I started to mess about and argue with Peter and then got dropped  :(

The thing is I knew Peter was going to drop me anyway, so I thought about contacting Sam Woods who was now with Raleigh and seeing if they`d take me on, but instead I though fook it and went on the piss instead  :daumenhoch:
