not dissing anybody that runs them.
but i'd sooner put a one peice crank in a bike than the newer twin type redlines.
just dont seem right to me on an old bike.
like putting a new school stem on an old bike if you could  :D.
dont attack me though.

I think you two are spot on too. Nearly every bike that i could remember which were sold in bike shops only came with opc's. To buy Redline flights you had to be a rich little daddys boy or do loads of paper Rounds or Caddying down the local golf course!  :D

My Dad brought me a brand new TA in 85 with all the best parts on. It cost him £350 back then. He wouldnt buy me flights though. For some reason it is the only thing that pushes building bikes a little way over the edge. They are just too expensive, even now. Im gonna put a one piece on it for definate. I just couldnt put a 3 piece on it that didnt fit the era that it was made. Two pinch flights aint for me.

I pushed the bidding right up on them SE bars tonight Dave. Went for a little more than i could afford. Nice for you though mate. :daumenhoch:

1 pc cranks are fine!

crank snobbery is a new thing.
wasn't around around "bitd" as that list of riders i put up proves.
when fiola rode the frosties people weren't saying "phuh that peasant only has a one piece crank"

if you want reality fit opc

but that's if

some very valid comments,

i too always rode 1pc, purely cos i was at school when i was 'in to' bmx'ing, and had no money for flights, and cos my dad was a cheapskate,

i guess it's still about how much you can afford or are willing to spend ? - original flight cranks are going for silly prices at the moment, I will get some, but will always have to justify any purchase, as I am the only earner in my household, and have a wife, 2 kids, & hefty mortgage to pay for first........

Personally I think the Sugino CT Crankset is still a good compromise, still old school, looks similar to the orignal redlines, and priced fairly.....

At the end of the day IT'S YOUR BIKE, AND YOUR DECISION, & we should respect each others views and choices... ;)

Hassel had some Hutch 3 piece Crank.  They were really nice.  He managed to completely bugger them up.  They just were't durable enough for freestyle.

There wasn't crank snobbery as it looks to be precieved in this thread when I was riding, but we all wanted Redline Flights (and most of us managed to get them in the end), and we all wanted to be 'boys' and have the best components.

I always managed to bend my 1 piece cranks (in hindsight, as I rode like a bonehead, I really should have expected it).

I went onto the GT 3 Piece one in the end (Sugino where they?) and they seemed quite good. Sold my last bike to Wayne Ryder, who then had it stolen out of his shed or something.

Cranks are definately a personal preference, but if you were rich enough to own flights or similar BITD then good luck to you, but all the bikes I had were fitted with OPC. I've built two recently with OPC and going to do the same with my TA when that's ready because that's what I remember even the richer kids having when I was a freestyling sprog  ;D

Only nowadays do I lust after 3 piece cranks but I can't bring myself to pay a small fortune for flights, so I tend to go with profiles or peregrines (which look like redlines anyway).

Love those kashi's!  :smitten:

nah, a loopy ripper being mainly a race bike is all about lightness and speed rather than having a strong crank like a 1 pc,

Sugino GT in a decent ano colour like MonkeyBiscuits suggested would like right imho,

also depends on what colour choice your doing ?

if your using ano colours, then deff a ano GT as chrome flights or opc might make it look "too chrome/silver".

Dont ne a tight git anyway, you've spent enough, so why not do the loopy ripper right.

My nos quad as below would look wrong with any chrome flights or opc.

but deff each to his own

I'm actually really pleased to see more and more builds using a OPC again ... that's exactly how I remember BMX BITD  :)

I used to fit posh cranks to all my bikes but they do nothing for me so they're all using a standard Sugino or Takagi OPC instead  ???

loads of bikes kids got off their parents in the early eighties came with one piece on.

there was a group of guys near me who were into it early and all had rippers with opc.

so i built mine with that in mind.

if you dont like them, bollocks to you.

if you do, bollocks to you.

in fact, bollocks to you anyway.

i like em.

Quads and Rippers look best with a OPC, Kashimax Aeros are horrible seats and alloy cranks are for small children.

...Don't get me started on tyres ;D

gotta disagree with ya there , did nt rippers and quads have opc as standard ?

i like mine with a opc

JT will shoot me down in flames but i like me changa with one on too

heres a standard vdc freestyler , note the opc

at the end of the day it s preference , no two bikes are alike , take mine and orangezippys quad, same colour but slight differences
