Hi all,

Did Kashimax ever do a baby blue seat??? Also do you think a ripper needs flights on to make it a great build?

Cheers Nick :daumenhoch:

In answer to the flights question I'd say this.
Would a MK1 Burner look good with Flights on and would a Ripper look good with a 1 piece crank on it?

No idea about the seat though.

i bought flites to go on my black ripper after i got stick for it running a one peice crank.
but after fitting them it looked a fooking sight lol.
i'd have had to get them gold plated to match lol.

I know it would look tasty but its a money thing too. Where do ya draw the line?
I think it will look sweet with a one piece.

Saying that though Dave, people badgered you about the tyres you put on it didnt they mate. It still won bike of the year! :4_17_5:

I don't like 1pc Cranks & would only use them if I was doing a rep.

As for the seat  :-\

personally i'd only use 1 pce if it was a rider,

if you have a tight budget, get some of the twin pinch Flights, £65 from the US. Have a look on the RAD Museum and also the VBMX Museum for some inspiration !!

alternaitvely get some AEROSPEEDS ya tight git !!  :LolLolLolLol:  :daumenhoch:

1 pc cranks suit the old school bikes

Christ no-one in my age group used 1 piece cranks, everybody used flights, profiles or Cooks Bros.  So I wouldn't imagine the pro's would have used them.

I would use OPC if you don't have the budget for single pinch flights , twin pinch don't work IMO  :)

Dordy's ripper looked fine with OPC , and as you say won BOTY .

Kashi , I think there might have been baby blue ?

ok all sorted now ;)

now we are reading from the same script

freestyle n not racing

be interesting to see the outcome

gra what years are you gonna source from

shall we say 83 to 86

be a bit of fun to see 5 freestylers with 1pc

and 20 freestylers with 3 pc

i,ll name my 20 and these are off the top of me noggin

haro,
dominguez,
campbell,
ruffell n,
stupple,
chris young,
andy irwin,
terry jenkins
pardon n preston,
RL and buff,
jeff watson,
fiola,
vanderspek
jason lunn,
eric steel,
jason hassell,
andy shohara,
dave curry

all rode with 3pc flights/profiles or hutch aerospeeds

at the end of the day in the cold light

i think it came down to preference, sponsership and good ol cash ola

ok i had a look in a couple of magazines
there were loads of 1pc cranks, but here are some riders with names you should recognise

mike pardon (the year he won bmx beat)
neil stevens
mike canning
dave young
eddie fiola (on a burgundy/white bike - frosties 85?)
dizz hicks
stuart winder
steven mackintosh
larry bull
jason hassel
andrew reardon

i think 1pc cranks were favoured by freestylers for their durability and strength
obviously not everyone rode them, but tons did.

as for the racers, there were some 1pc cranks too but i didnt recognise anynames. seems like the 3pc was the king there.

but for your resto bike, either will do!

Hear Hear!  It's your choice, obviously Flights would be nice in as much as they were nice bitd but realistically how many people actually owned a bike with them?  I had Profiles and a set of Flights but by god they cost a small fortune and up until then I rode with good ole Sugino or Takagi one piece cranks and only bent one set after a quite large jump over Hayden Hall  :daumenhoch:

Its my opinion that you use one piece, as when the BMX boom hit our country so did one piece cranks. Id never seen these cranks before bmx. Before that it was 3 piece with cotter pins lol.  One piece came with BMX :4_17_5:

not dissing anybody that runs them.
but i'd sooner put a one peice crank in a bike than the newer twin type redlines.
just dont seem right to me on an old bike.
like putting a new school stem on an old bike if you could  :D.
dont attack me though.
im just sad thats all lol.
