Dent removal - who can I pay to do this?
« on: June 05, 2007, 02:07 PM »
I have 2 dents on my GT frame, both small, but one is quite sharp, more of a crease.

Who would anyone recomend to fill/pull these out?

I've no tools/skills like welding/slide hammering etc to do this myself..

I would be happy to try filling, but spoke to the makers of Chemical metal who said that it wouldnt stand the heat of powder coatingovens.

So any suggestions of a filler that would?

cheers and TIA

M

I had a dent on one of my frames filled with braze a while back.  I just looked in the yellow pages under welding, rang them and asked if they did brazing.  As long as it is just good old steel / cromo (i.e. not heat treated like many newer frames) it will do no harm at all.  I had to spend a while filing and sanding to tidy it up but once it was powder coated it was totally undetectable and it has never moved an inch.  I still ride it to this day.

I did find links to filler especially for powder coating but I didn't fancy it.  i can dig out the link if you like.

i work in a body shop and we have a tool that welds pegs/pins on to a panel, then using a slide hammer you can pull out dent then file down with no need for filler,i did a pair of bars and a frame this way and worked really well :daumenhoch:
