When we were young, for a day out we used to cycle 8 miles or so to Hotshot shop just to go look at the stuff in there. Like a propper day trip and not even buy anything. One time, being a young 12 year old, I hadnt eaten anything all day and the cycle ride almost finished me off. I had a little bit of a spinout in the shop and kinda passed out. The last thing I remember seeing was an 11" headtube. When I came too outside the shop, I had to go back in to see if that bike was really there! It was.

Thats the one, Hotshot in Kidlington, just out side Oxford. They also had another shop in Cowley center, Oxford. It was up stairs from a budget supermarket called Lesandons. The Les being Les Windel (in the end the whole shop shut, I heard it was because Don died). Some time later, the Kidlington shop changed names to 'Everything at your Lesure'. They did skate stuff too, but it was never as good as the old Hotshot or Lesandon shops. They were massive. Like a propper bike shops but they only had top end BMX stuff. Wish I had taken some photos of it back then. I kinda remember the window displays. Once it was Bassett and all black and rainbow, another time it was all Patterson. So cool.

You gotta lay off the drugs Al.

Not me mate, Im the only clean one!!! sXe in your face!
Now the guys who designed the mongoose frames .... they were in some kind of haze, for sure!

I remember my first sighting of a moosegoose....

was at the earls court motorbike show, which had a dirt bmx track with racing at it, I'm guessing this would be 81 or 82.... there was a guy racing one there in the big boys races who seemed to be winning every time he rode.... for some reason I've always believed it was Tim March before he really made a name for himself.... be interested to know if anyone can confirm this, or if it's just another of the tricks my memory seems to play on me....

Mike
