Why are Quadangles called Quadangles?
« on: May 21, 2007, 12:06 PM »
Ive a question someone might be able to answer:

Why are Quadangles called Quadangles?

If its cos the frame design is made up of 4 triangles, then why does the loop tail have an extra one? Did they come up with the name after the looptail, and if so, was the looptail a Pentangle? If the looptail was the real “Quad”, and maybe the name was just to do with the 4 triangles in the front end of the frame, are the later non loop frames actual’y Triangles, and if so, do they make a nice sound if you hit them with a stick?

Ive always wondered about the Quad contradiction. Can anyone help?

Great One.....

If I remember correctly, I always thought the Quadangle was called its name from the four angles with the four sides.

So when it was originally designed (for strength and rigidity) with - Four Angles in the Main Design of the frame - BB towards Top-Tube to Front-end and then back to BB.

This gave them the Four Angles and hence Quadangle.

We now have a bike with out a four sided / four angled main part of the design, but as it was called Quadangle, with next next generation bike the great name and unique shape was continued in the marketing.

I have a GT Mountain Bike that is called a Triple Triangle. This also has four sides / angles in the central part of the frame - just like the Looptail Quad.

So, should it officially be called the Quadtriangle - doesn't role off the tounge very well though .

 :D
