S&M Widow Maker - Finished!
« on: May 12, 2007, 11:24 PM »
Well I only got the frame yesterday but I got the bike all finished tonight. I had a little bit of messing about with the headset (the top part is an old GT Epoch I found) and the rear cones (they didnt really wanna fit in the frame). Also, the wheel is as far back as I can get it without using a half link and the wheel hits the frame. It hits the seat say on one side and the chain stay on the other. GREAT. Oh, and the pit bull cam bottoms out on the cable stop before the blocks have hit the rims. I had forgoten what hard work putting bikes together used to be.

I might change the wheels, Ive got some chrome rims that I might build up and use. I also might change the cranks before I ride it hard cos I dont wanna brake the Prince Alberts. Ive got for a 40:17 gearing so thanks vert squert for the flight ring.

Rob ... No Gyro, no front brake, no need to get the brake working very well, no pegs so getting the back wheel in place was easier (almost). These racer types dont know they have been born when it comes to building bikes!

Grant ... that seat was just the best one I had in the shed for the bike. You might recognise it, I got it on a bike I got through you not long ago! I should be getting an S&M shield race seat soon so that will go on it, and probably look OK with the red stuff on it.

I hope to. Ive got a later S&M cruiser that I use for getting around on, locking up in town, that kind of thing. Apart from that Ive never ridden a 24", def not on jumps, so I dont rate my chances much. I will still give it a go. I think it even pass as "old school" (maybe?).

I'm the same. I've got one of those Haro Nyquist 24 things that I rode to work on for a couple of years, but I don't think I want to ride it in anger..

looks fantastic dude! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

i had the same rear wheel troubles on my last cruiser(the standard), even with the skinniest "24x1.75 tyre there was barely enough clearance to squeeze a rizla between the tyre and the frame,

primo used to make a "24x1.50 v-track tyre, i saw one on US e-bay a while back,

if you decide to sell the later s&m cruiser put me down for first dib dobs!!

great build, :4_17_5:

That's lovely mate...I've always wanted one of those..Clean build too.Strange that the wheel is so tight though.
That ticks all the right boxes for Old School racing too...MK race??Be nice to have some more cruisers this year. :daumenhoch:

This is a bit better, although its still just taken using my phone. I really should spend some time clearing up my garden!

Thanks to a very tidy pad set from dialled bikes Mike (thanks) and getting a more fitting seat and post, I thought it was time to take a better pic of the widow maker. Now if I can just find the time to sort out the back wheel rubbing I am all set to ride in MKs OS 24" race.

I have also managed to get hold of a set of S&M C4 cruiser bars (4 peice bars, like mini castilos). I was going to put them on here but they are black, and the chrome Gaybars look great.
