Skyway baggy headset problem?!
« on: May 11, 2007, 04:04 PM »
In the process of building up a street beat I have taken a headset (make unknown) out of an aero reflex and I have noticed that the bottom bearing cup is a bit loose, the top bit is as tight as it should be...can anyone suggest a decent headset for street beats? or a way that this can be rectified?

Is it normal to have a baggy bottom cup (Fnar, fnar)

Cheers

Check the bottom of the heatube, sounds like it may be a little flared

Nah its spot on...did notice that the bottom of the head tube had some kinda groove cut out of it...is this normal for beats? got the frame raw from the US so I dont think it would have been mucked about with....

there all the same mate.
i've had 3 of them and none of the headsets fitted in tight.
if you look inside the tube you can see its been machined out for some reason  :idiot2:.
build it up and see how it goes.
pickle rides one.
ask him how his one was like to ride.

What headset is it?  if it's one of those cheap chrome ones out of Halfords (Diamond back) then yes the bottom bearing race doesn't fit snug around the base of the forks....so you'll have play there.....i did with mine (trying to penny pinch) so threw it, bought and fitted a Beartrap 2 and it's as tight as a fishes arse mate!  :daumenhoch:

Get yourself one of those
