I was talking to my mate Sunil last night. It turns out we were both at a Tim March BMX training day at Deddington BMX track in 1982/83. Tim walked groups of kids round the track, told them what to look out for and gave tips on racing. I didnt know Sunil back then but we were both there! Tim March really was a super star, ay? And I guess he put a lot of work and effort into making BMX a full time job.

My BMX Action Hot Shots book states Tim was 6ft 5".

It states that he was the first to introduce the 'sidewinder start style' in the UK.....can anyone explain what this was?

Sidewinder start is where the rider places the wheel against the start gate as normal but they move the rear end of the bike to the left or the right like a dogleg(depending on their snapping foot)... i think it allowed more use of the hip in driving down the first pedal stroke
