wheelbuild issue
« on: April 18, 2007, 02:15 PM »
Hello all after a little help,

took my araya aeros, large flange hubs and 184mm spokes off to be built and the shop (who normally build all my bmx wheels) say the spokes are too long, can anyone here help what size should i be using?

thanks in advance

Yep they are too long mate, 184's would be fine for a small flange hub.  can't the shop tell you what you need?

im sure 180mm is fine for largeflange hubs aero rim 4 cross pattern but will check tomorrow for you my wheel is locked up at work at the minute, I will take the 184mm off your hand if you need to recoup some money LMK.

I would have thought the 184 would be fine, but ask Zippy what length spoke and hub he is going to build his shiny re-annodised aeros!!

You can get shorter spokes from Custom Riders. I've just had a look and they've got some 177's in stock which is only 1mm shorter than your shop suggested, with long nipples I'd imagine they'll fit.

As a comparison, I had some Suzue 48's built into a pair of Atomlab Trailpimps and bought 175's

177mm should be perfect for an araya aero to a large flange suzue, 4cross lace pattern,  :)

Go on do it yourself, araya aeros are stiff as fook and its quite difficult to pull them out of round, therefore making them an excellent wheel to try and build yourself, I think the wheel building advice on tech and restoration is a pretty good guide. :)
