what chain have you got and what cassette is it you are using, is the chain too long or too short or does it physically not fit onto the sprocket.
there are 2 sizes of chain available 1/8th normal bmx pitch and there is the less commom in the bmx world but some people use them and most MTB and geared bikes use 3/32th pitch

it doent fit on the sprocket.

not width wise, it fits for 2 or 3 teeth, but then starts to misfit, and it gets progressively worse.

I thought that 1/8th and 3/32nds was the width and not the pitch. A chainring and sprocket that are for 3/32 will take a 1/8 but it will be a little sloppy side to side. (eg, I think flight rings and shimano freewheels take both chain sizes).

The half link thing is just to do with getting the rear wheel in the right place, esp important as many NS dropouts have very little slot length. The style of a chain with all half links is just that, style, and it also means you can get the wheel placement spot on without having to get an extra half link like you would if you ran a normal chain. Having said that, some of the half link chains do cope with the tight curve of a small sprocket better than some normal style chains.

It sounds like your chain just dont wanna cope with the tight radius so you need to get a more suted one. Doesnt have to be a half link style, but just one designed for small sprockets.

will the khe collapse be suitable?

its not my bike, its my sons, and weve just driven 50 miles there, and 50 miles back to get new cranks/chainwheel/driver and having spent 170 quid of his hard earned pocket money, you can imagine how gutted he is...

The bike Ive got right now is the first bike Ive had with a small drive so I dont have too much knowlage of it. I use a loophole chain that I got from alans (or was it loophole direct?). Its a normal style chain but I got it cos it was black. I had to get a half link to get the back wheel all the way forward in the dropout but it coped with the 10t sprocket fine.

Id say just call up a shop tomorrow, or even take the back wheel into a shop.

yeah, i had a 16 too, so thats on it now.

he's got his powerbites on now, but, dont laugh, i didnt realise they had chainring holes on both sides so i put the arms on the wrong side and now his pedals are back to front.

by this point he's sayin...fook it im just off for a ride...lol...

those euro bb's are a pain in the ass to fit too, if you dont have the tool for it.

it was alans i bought all the stuff from, but alan was out, so i didnt have his expertise to rely upon.

the guy who was in there was a bit slow tbh. ordered a new bike for my other son, and he was going on about it having to be built, and checked, when it was already sat in the cellar built...
then... said he didnt know what seatpost would fit in an 06 ripper, and he couldnt check cos they were out of stock, then the other guy who knew his shit went downstairs and found one right in front of him...

not been too productive today tbh.

yeh sorry got my pitch and width mixed up , but what i said still stands I have a ten tooth driver on my bike and I use a cheap kmc z chain about £8 if memory serves me correctly, If the chain is the correct width it will fit any size sprocket
