Dia Comp front brake
« on: April 23, 2007, 10:10 PM »
I have tried to fit a Dia Comp Nippon front brake, but the quick release bit
dosen't hold the cable, any ideas or help will be great.

The back brake is fine but the front has a different bit.
The photo show the quick release system and the whole wher the cable threads through
but how does it stay there or create a tension?

thats because the one you have is a potts mod, designed for your cable to be threaded thru your stem bolt, through the steerer tube, and up from the bottom of the brake not the top

Dave
haro, how do you do

Oh, so it the reverse of the back brake, have you got pictures of how I should set it up.
I just got the brake lever out and that is different as well.

Sorry for being thick, but never seen these before

Not normal for the brake lever to be different.

The pots mod, is where you have a hollow stem bolt, so you can pass the front brake cable down through the stem and through the forks, so th ecable comes out where the brake bolt goes through.

You then loop the brake cable back upwards and connect it to the brake.

This is used for freestyle, so you can spin the bars round and round with out the cable getting tied up.

Here is my TA with one

Nice bike,

Can the brake still work on a non-freestyler.
How do you get the cable up to the lever?

You have to have a hollow stem bolt (if you haven't you can get ACS ones for about a tenna) then the cable goes down that, out of the forks then loops round and goes into the bottom of the brake rather than the top.  The cable should then just fit into the lever like normal.    :daumenhoch:

Can you let me know where I can get one from, been on alansbmx.com, but see one.

 :uglystupid2:

Actually just found this
https://www.extreme-direct.co.uk/bmx/stems/ruption/23852.php

but I will still need to cut the end of the cable off to thread it through the brake, but how does it then connect to the
brake lever when the end is missing?

I have never come across this style of brake before, anyone got a step by step guide.
Losing sleep over it

The stem has a hole in the bolt that will take both the inner and outer cable. All you do is thread it through there and attach it to the bottom of the caliper. If there is nothing on the fork to hold the cable away from the wheel use a cable tie or two.
