MY FIRST BUILD !!!!
« on: April 03, 2007, 03:04 PM »
I know we're all used to seeing Haro Master's, in particular 85's. And I know this isn't quiet up to a lot
of the great builds I regularly see here on RAD, but I'm so chuffed with my first build since 1984 :) I had
to post it, even though its not finished yet.

Its taken me nearly a year to build & cost £450, thanks to Del for bits & bobs.

That looks great, I like those Tuffs against the White, are you keeping the seat, I think a Blue one would suit the rest of the bike more, but it looks great with those Tuffs & white Tyres.   :daumenhoch:

Thanks for those comments fella's much appreciated. :)

I do have a blue Flyte Tech seat on order, which I think will look much better (colour's & cuffs :)). Not sure what to do about brakes, maybe white or blue ???. Also really wanted MKS grahites but they're a sod to find, so may go for some blue one's.

I'd go for silver brakes, levers and pedals...white cables...nice and neutral.

Hi

You got to love a Haro.

As has already been said, blue seat, maybe blue seat clamp for me too, or the same seat clamp with silver brakes and levers with blue cables and also have the front cable under the crossbar (use cable ties / velcro straps) so you can use it for bar hops  ;)

Blue pedals, you carn't go wrong and if ever a white set of MKS Graphites turn up (sometimes on US bay) it would look sweet.

Don't forget the dustcaps (silver?).

Looks like it is gonna be a good-un.

There's nothing wrong with that build mate!!  top notch!!  those GT tyres do look cool!  although keeping em that clean will be a mare!

Think the blue seat will set it off nicely, as for brakes i'd go white or chrome

You should be proud mate!!  :daumenhoch:

Oh and it has to be white dice dust caps for me

Not really sure if its a torker master ??? Thinking back that was my second master, the first one I got for Xmas 84? (had taped rear stays) broke within a week & that was the replacement.

Funny really when I set out to do a re-build, I wanted to do my old bike..............

.............er never really worked out to plan.

I would have thought it was not a Torker built Master, X Mas would be late 84.

I think your new build looks better  :daumenhoch:

Could have been 83 :idiot2: Were they making Master's then? Or was it still Gen1. I do remember that Master's were  pretty new at the time.

Me & a friend used to ride for a local shop, we both got had one & he still has his the B£$%$ard!! Which year was the master with tapered rear stay's, very flimsy coaster bracket and step head tube anglr made then?

The sticker on the front was a gen 1 decal I think, always thought the master head tube decal was a bit lame :(

Have to say back then the bikes were more about function than presentation, as you can tell

Think Jay, Moose or Greentoad will know when they first came out, but as far as I know, the Masters came out in 84, there were two Torker Models & one Taiwan model

I think I must of got mine for XMas 83 then ??? We had our's from the shop's first UK delivery I think.

I destroyed many a bike prior to my second master, but it lasted till the middle of 86, when I advertised it in the back of BMX Action bike for £185.00 :D By then it had had a complete orange make over with chrome decals, looked the nuts at the time. Some lad in Manchester got a bargain & I got a knackered second hand mini :-[

Like I said my mate still has his and a very early 85 style master, with 84 decals, all original. Gathering dust in his loft, says its for his retirement :LolLolLolLol:

That '85 Master look's well cool  :4_17_5:

Not sure that you would have had that '84 Master for Xmas '83. Greentoad has the latest information on dates (I think it moved by a couple of months) :-\

Hi

From what you have said, I reckon that you had a Gen 2 Torker built Master - they have the tapered rear stays (the best looking Haro's in my opinion). Mine is the oldest recorded from July 1984, and in the Haro Registry two are dated from October 1984.

If you had it in Christmas 1983 it could be a Gen 1 (Gen 2 officially) Freestyler, but they only came in chrome (not white) that would also not of had tapered stays, the declals are also different. Did you have the decals and stays as below?

So, if yours was as above, you could have had one ordered up, then fitted by the shop (they came as F&F) then got it for Christmas 1984.

The replacement bike you then got was most likely a Foreign built bike. Do you remember the Chevron Logo in the gusset on the replacement?

You could not of got a Gen 1 Master as these did not come out till March 1984 and the Gen 1 / Gen 2 Freestyler was still produced through Christmas 1983. (Hope that all makes sense)

It would be great if you could get some pictures of your mates Master, plus serial number and post them on Rad. If it is a Torker built bike, it would be great to have another in the Registry.

(Hi Moose - i'll send over a new list if you like - I have not changed the dates as yet as I need earlier Gen 1 Freestylers or older Gen 1 Masters to confirm, howvere there are loads of new additions).
