Now,  I don't want to start a row or owt.......  but I see that Gerry Galley has appeared in a few peoples lists.

I could never call him an unsung hero.  He is just a hero full stop.  When I returned to riding his was the first British name I heard in the same sentence as all the pros of the day.  It was well recognised that he could ride any ramp, however bad, to the highest standard. I saw him regularly bring skateparks to a standstill  (riders and skaters), we would all watch with our jaws on the floor.

I dont know him well enough to know his life story, but I'll bet he was offered every sponsorship deal there was at the time. I'd bet he still gets offered stuff now.  I'm guessing he choose not to take those deals and stay true to himself. Something else that makes him a hero to me.

Anyone remember him riding the street comp at KOC one year and not jumping the box once?  Back in the days of so-called street comps which were no more that jumpbox comps.  No, Gerry went and did what he wanted to do, and stayed true.

I've said it before and I'll say it again;   Legend.  One of my all time favourite riders and an inspiration.  An unsung hero to me would be the rider that didn't get the recognition he deserves, and thats not true of Gerry.

In my opinion, of course   ;) ;D

Hear hear, TwoBobRob.

I thought this thread started as "Unsung" and it seemed to turn into "fav".

Gerry is def my Fav rider of the 90s (pos ever). I know of several companies that offered him things and he wouldnt take it. One clothing company kept sending him boxes of stuff. He'd think about it for a while and then just send it back, saying he wouldnt be able to do anything to justify it! I think the same box of clothes went back and forth a few times!

I met Jerry Galley at the smelly ramp last year and have to say Iat the time was not aware of his legendary status (not that it would have made any difference) and I have to say he is one of the nicest blokes I've met - there is nothing pretentious or arrogant about the man - he is exceptionally rad, friendly and funny (well he took the pee out of Pete Quad a lot and that's funny in my book  :LolLolLolLol:).  Here's a clip of him nearly hitting the roof at the smelly ramp  :daumenhoch:.

I also have to mention Zak Shaw, he is very rad too  :daumenhoch:.

Jerry....

Top man is Jerry (with a 'J'!), rad as fook and constantly a pleasure to be with and ride with - I was so lucky to ride with him twice a week down at the barn (RIP), he taught me so much stuff, from peg stalls to how to effectively take the piss out of Pete. Genius.

Marco Massei and Chris Rye, good riders and good blokes. Involved in the legendary Baco series of 'events' with Hilson and DeGroot.

I don't have any tattoos...... nor do I want any.

But if I did, I'd have that target in the middle of my shin just like Clymers.  Nothing sums up BMX more for me than a fooking pedal to the shin   :)
