Not heard of Mason Smith???  surely not!

I was told he still rides alot.....does Corby every Thursday evening.

He used to ride at my local skate park in Stevenage, super smooth!!  he'd turn up on his Gen1 and everyone would just stop and watch him with mouths open at how smooth he was.......well mostly just at his bike as we ALL had Burners  :LolLolLolLol:

Im still trying to get round to scanning in the last bike Jam at Mons. I think Steve Grace got a pic from that, he was real good.
Martyn Tambling still rides and is still way rad, rides for Standard I think.

Here's my suggestion:
Derren Bailey! Amazing rider, minis, dirt jumps, all of it. He is still real good and has never had any kind of sponsor or even "flow" of parts. There is no justice! (Oh, dont tell him I said any of this!).

pickle i no masons been around a long time
and all the riders i listed where known but
i put them in the unsung list as they inspired so many
so maybe none belong in this thread.   :)
mason nearly ripped his thumb right of and had a while out but soon stepped up again.

I was with Mason when he broke his thumb, riding the mini in Oxford. Very nasty. After a not very bad looking crash he said he had hurt his thumb. He took his glove off and it was pointing totally the wrong way. Mason was so Tuff about it. Just put his stuff in the car and drove about an hour and a half home, and then went to his local A&E! I expect he ate a bag of nails as a snack on the way!

Same list as General Lee, plus Jerry Galley - he's a top riders rider, rode with the Sprocket Jockeys but never really hit mainstream like his peers did. He was regularily beating Bestwick, Tabron and the like.

O'Connell for sure! One of the most gifted 'technical' riders you'll ever see. I sold him my King Fork/Stem combo a few years ago i wonder  if he still has it? I'd like to buy it back!

Got to agree with Rob Ridge too although he never inspired me fashion wise!

As for Kevin Jones he's had 'God' status handed to him on a plate for years but never bothered with all that just happily tooling around that car park in York!

I always loved Mason's red Lengthy! (oo-er!)

I heard Mark Cornick has a ramp in his garden now, and still rides the old yellow beater with '98 set up.  That dude was / is  awesome.

Totally Derren, He used to show up at our local trails in Wallington, back in 95-96 or so.... He had the best bike ever... Green Big Daddy, Slams & Alu Peregrine rims...  I totally copied his bike.

Good call on Matt Warren Rob, he and i had a Zima at the same time and kept bumping into each other at Wakefield, Radlands etc. Needless to say he rode his Zima a tad better than i rode mine!

I had the priviledge of riding with Matt Warren one or twice at Wakefield,  I was completely impressed.   Jay Davies is still a ripper now,  does anyone know if he's still in america?

In terms of Uk riders from the early mid school days, concidering the lack of coverage and footage gathered from this period then many are unsung heroes.
some of my favoorite from this time :

Lee Reynolds
Andy Brown
Aju BuBu
Phil dolan
James Mulby
Gerry Galley

In fact there were loads of gret riders from this time, but what seperate this period more noticably more than anything else was the ammount of individuality between each rider.

For got about Aju what a smooth rider and jolly nice chap too..

Maybe a selfish punt here but everyone who kept riding when BMX was as popular as herpies deserves a hand ....
