1978 Roger DeCoster - My Newest Build
« on: April 02, 2007, 07:30 PM »
I have just finished putting together my newest build a 1978 Mongoose Roger DeCoster.

I must say that this has been my favourite build so far, although for anybody that has ever tried to put together a era-correct 1970's BMX will know just how hard it is to source the parts.

Have a look at the extensive parts rundown and then try to imagine the difficulty in finding so many NOS parts.

This really has turned out well and it is so shiney, I just can't stop looking at it.

There are so many little details that I love, like the radially laced rims, the brake lever cover, the centre pull caliper and I love the peg board complete with Roger DeCosters 1978 number.

I have to thank AL for the decals, Craizycraig for the rims and especially Reilley1 for the parts advice, cheers guys  :daumenhoch: :4_17_5:

Do you know stidds it's been ages since a bike stirred my loins but that excites!

Looking at that evokes those great feelings I had as a kid hearing about BMX for the first time, reading early BMX plus mags, seeing those early bikes and pestering my dad to get me one. For those of you young uns who only got into BMX in the late 80s I will never be able to explain what you guys missed in those early pioneering days.

Well done fella, a truly nice build  :daumenhoch:

Stunning, just seen it in the museum so had to come looking for the thread that introduced it.

The build is top notch and the blue is awsome - I assume the frame has been painted - if so who did it???

Thanks Paul

The frame has been completely restored by me.  It was candy blue originally, so I stripped what was left of it, polished the hell out of the nikel underneath and then mixed candy aquamarine blue with a clearcoat and applied over the top.  I am really pleased with the finish.

I have learnt many a new skill since I have been restoring bikes and spraying and welding are just two of them.
