The 1 st bmx I saw at Gillingham....well kinda!
« on: March 26, 2007, 11:26 AM »
Hi everyone,
Thought I'd show you some pics of my pride and joy. A vintage Redline mx2 i 've been putting together for the last 18 months. This is an early   1979 american made model (luckty find) rather that the later Japanese models . I had it dated on vintage bmx as they have pages dedicated to redline history, frame numbers etc. ...spec includes Profile 2nd Gen cranks, Snakebellys, Redline V bars, Eline seat, Suntour Power Stem..... Skateparkin'.

I used to see these things at Gillingahm all the time and always wanted one.

Anyone up for Rom in the next few weeks???????? I'm dying to ride her! My brothers comin up on his looptail Ripper. Come on Mike.W, Chrome Andy, Hoad, Marcel, Jason Dakham.....Gill boys where are y'all??
Simon.

There a number of ways to tell the diiference between US made and Japanese made frames.
1.If you have a frame nunber with no redline logo or intials - just a serial number
2. A slightly more relaxed seat tube angle
3. Smaller rear drop outs
4. Seat tube slit with no hole - just a slit
5. No welding gas escape holes near rear drop outs. The US made frames used the brake bridge hole to allow for gas to escape and to prevent 'grenading' when bits of metal roll around inside.

good luck riding it. i am stumpy, but my mx2 was unrideably small

- I used to ride a ripper around with no trouble , that my brother now rides, arent they even smaller???
