PK Ripper........ Do i or Dont i ?
« on: March 20, 2007, 12:10 PM »
As you probably know i have a Black Loopy ripper with original finish... Do i strip it and repowder or leave it? Do i just strip the top of the rear tri where the marks are and touch it up to try and keep as much of the original finish as possible?
I also have a graphite Uni seat to remove.... I was going to saw it off about an inch above the seat tube and then give the remaining protuding piece a sharp whack straight downward with a soft Thor hammer... Do you reckon this will free it?  Any help or advice appreciated as always :)

cut the post     and run an undersized drill down it until its nearly throu   then hacksaw blade inside.

i'd leave it too - survivors are the best
build up with other parts that have the same kinda aged look to them

with the seat try everything before cutting it (not sure if you have already)
cheers Kev

I like taking stuck posts out, and it can be a bitch.

that is graphite me thinks, thus should be fairly easy, try a bit of petrol in there, that may help, then twisting in a vice, if that fails, try drilling it with care, then, a hack saw blade.

Some of them can be a bitch, but i think this one will let go.

Thanks guys :)
I didnt really want to do any sort of twisting as ripper seat tubes dont respond well to that sort of stress... I will soak the post first and give a go though :)  If that doesnt work i will try Dannys method  ;)

Is it worth re powdering it and spending all that money on if you're going to ride it??  you know it'll only last a week or two before it snaps  ;)

Leave as is......i like the survivor ones  :daumenhoch:

I remember having to get a uni post out of a frame as a kid and not having much trouble banging it out with with a screw driver and a hammer ::)

strip it and refinish it. it's only paint. may as well make it look as minty as it deserves to.

Could you not just drill a hole near the top of the post.
then push a long metal rod through... wide grip, turn and pull

Yeah the way I would do it is as scary leary says"""
I normaly empty a can of wd40 down it leave it over night then drill a hole through the top of the post. probs about 8mm if ya can then I put an allen key through that hook it with the end of a long ring spanner and turn. Heat the frame up if you can but not hot just warm.
Then when it turns I put a seat on and twist in the normal way to get it out.
Just done it on a jammed post in my profile frame and it worked straight away.

The posts react with the alloy of the ripper, they're notorious for it.

my advice is grease your pole well!!

Oh and how about bolting a stem on to the post, then giving it some with a large lever??!!
