I was curious where the boundries lay with what's considered a survivor. I'm presuming it 's obviously at least an unrestored frame and forks with original paint, but if any parts are nos or restored does it fall outside of the realms of a survivor? Is it just something that's been at the back of a shed for 25 years and untouched?

Thanks for your input, your all smashers.... :daumenhoch:

Survivor has to be untouched IMO.

I would imagine you could put new air in the tyres if necessary!  :LolLolLolLol:

So what if you got it as a frame and fork or as a complete bike but someone else has put new parts on it and you've replaced those?  Still a survivor?

This is a good question.

Could I take a survivor and replace 'sub-standard' survivor parts with a better standard of survivor parts?

I would say the moment you add anything its not a survivor ( bar ffs Air , polish , oil Greese ) LOL

although to be fair you could add used parts and then say that you found it like that ? so that makes a mockery of a sham of this definition  ;D

but it has to be a full bike and no new parts added  after you found it

So, a survivor (read as previously used and not NOS) frame & fork can be called a survivor and built with used parts and remain a survivior but build it with new or NOS parts and it's no longer a survivor  :-\.

So what is it then?

This is all too confusing  :LolLolLolLol:

there should be no class in any show for "survivor"

it's too wooly a section

id say a survivor is a bike made from  non restored parts  inc f&f for the simple reason that if you found a "survivor" in someones garage whos to say it hadnt been put together half an hour before you got there ? with used to parts from the bay ?

you dont know do you ?   so to have a level playing field whats fair for everyone and eliminates any cheating you make it so as long as it has no repops decals etc, it hasnt been rechromed or powdered and all the parts are old old school then it qualifies as a survivor

I think you could tell a true survivor to one that has been "improved"

Take the Gen 1 that Harris took to MK last year, or the Redline that Vinoah found. Now they are survivors.

I don't think you should even be allowed to clean them!  ;)

it broke my heart to clean this
i would have left all the spiders webs on it

ps i did buy a nos set of mxII decals dated 1979,and correct for this bike
but me and the fella who it belongs to
just couldt bring ourselves to use them
so it stays as is for evermore
spent the last 24 yrs in a shed, like all survivors should
other than the profile, that was found under a huge pile of horse kahkah ;)

Yep, Dans Haro, Steves Redline, Dordymush's Skyway (I think it was his, was at Epic) and Bigdogs Sport sum up "Survivor" for me

judges decision. if you look at dans bike you can tell its not been touched.

people like these kind of bikes as survivors.

if you clean one, add old parts, change decals, you are moving away from it looking lke one.....survivors always have the wrong colur stuff...mismatched parsts etc and thats there charm.....start adding other stuff and they look less and less like a survivor, thus reducing your chances of winning.....

plus what is the point of winning a 6 quid trophy, knowing that your "survivor" is not?

your only fooling yourself, its not big, and its not clever....
I want to touch ORB
