Iconic for the design though, most probs. And that they were bullet proof and went for ever which can't be said for the raleigh burner

For anyone outside of or just starting into BMX the Burner was the bike they knew. The Ripper and TA were iconic to those in the know and that is why the Burner is winning the vote.

When did Rippers make an appearance? I never saw one bitd. Only bikes I remember from very early 80s were Mongoose, Skyway, Puch, Hutch, Torker, Redline, Robinson, raleigh, wilson, Kuwahara, ProStar & Diamondback. Was there one called a Magnum or something? I may have just made that up

i had to vote for the pro performer, i wanted one from the minute i saw one, it took me all of 84 (selling every other toy i owned, doing odd jobs for my neighbours) to get the money for one when i was 13, for two years solid me and bike went and did everything together,

then i sold it for a ford escort / girls

Theres a broken Ripper in the Tech and Resto Section,it wasn't that one was it.. who said burners where crap!!

The PK Ripper appeared latter part of 70's I think , it depended really on when you got into BMX also . The TA (83 ?) for instance is a pup compared to the Ripper . I saw the Shiners ads from about 81/82 so that vision of a Ripper came early on .

No one is disputing that the Ripper is an awesome bike and an Icon in their own right.

But, the Tuff Burner was the first BMX I ever saw and it blew my socks off. Compared to all the other dross bikes that were around at the time, this was the dawning of a new era.

That is why IMO it is THE most iconic BMX. Whatever came after it is irrelevant. I know the Ripper had been in production since the late 70s compared to the early 80s for the Burner, but they hadn't really hit our shores or got any notoriety until the craze really took off and the Burner is one of the bikes that helped the craze take off. So the Ripper should thank the Burner for that!

Though it pains me to say it, the humble Burner. I think the dream icon is the Ripper though.
