Dave, Pete and Alex's Most Excellent Adventure
« on: March 04, 2007, 09:02 PM »
Stodgy, Quad and me drove right across Greater London and back this morning. Stodgy and Quad were going to Rom to get some forks and I asked if I could jump in and get a bike that I won off Ebay, collection only from sound London. We were at Rom for 9:30 and even had a bit of a ride till it started raining, and then sat in traffic for a few hours to go get the bike. I wasn’t sure what it was cos it was a bad picture on Ebay but it was cheap enough to be worth the gamble …. It paid off!

I’m told by Stodgy that its an early, US made “ramp room” Taj frame. It has got Menstural (S&M) 1” clamp on forks and 1” clamp on redneck, Peregrine super pros (apart from the rear hub that is Hoffman), Profile cranks, very cut down powerlite bars and other Nice parts. And Man oh man, is it HEAVY!

Stodgy told me about the radbmx rule that all Hoffman stuff has to be given to him so I didn’t own the frame and rear hub for long. Im glad non of the parts were GT or I would have had to give them to Quad!

Thanks to Dave for driving, to Pete for helping to make the journey more fun, and to Rom for still being Rad, even in the rain, at 10:00am on a cold Sunday morning.

That is a result Alex, well done   :coolsmiley:

What other parts are you not keeping?  Might be interested in the Peregrine wheels   :daumenhoch:

Ive got plans for the forks/stem, cranks and the wheels. Sorry. I even have an odd super pro rear hub to build back into the wheel once Stodge has taken his "Hoffman tax". Its a shame one of the S&M pedals is broken ... but I really cant grumble!

'Hoffman Tax'  ;D

Should be a government directive that. Makes sense to me.

Im just about to start taking the bike apart and I got it on the scales first:

37.5 lbs!!!!!

No wonder my back is aching, after lifting that thing in and out of the car a few times (I thought it was my 30mins riding at Rom). Even with 10mm axles and way cut down bars it is that heavy. How did we used to ride those over engineered bikes?

and a ruck sack  .we where fitter to, i do remember them being a tad heavy
when i rode at stevenage,i carried my bike up 4 flights of stairs .then was creamed
after that i swopped my frame for a 87 gt performer with 90s parts.till it cracked.
